It was a cold wakeup call when I fed the dogs this morning. 39 degrees made me wanting to find some firewood. Regardless, heck of a day in college football today. I'll be around all day - my wife is going to Bowling Green for homecoming or something, and I'm left to battle my girls into doing things that don't distract me from football.
Not sure if that will lead to some food or not. It's a good day to make some chili, but I'm all out of beans and don't know if I'll get to the store.

Well the great news is, there are no beans in chili, so you're all good!
Horns play Baylor today at 2:30 Central. (Kick out Baylor obviously). Major opportunity for a let-down after beating the hated Sooners at the Cotton Bowl last week.
-
This is the last weekend in the harbor, it appears. Everyone is pulling out except me, so no reason to come back up. Definitely not a cooking day, since all the grills are put away. Probably gonna go out for some grub and watch a little football after my chores around here are done and after a final boat ride for the season.
-
It has been unusually warm down here until yesterday when a touch of chill hit the air, but I see the high Ts are back in the 80s next week.
This is the wife's first time in ATL so she is not really aware of how it can be around these parts. She claims to like the heat anyway, so we're good on that front. I think the winters are about like they are in Paris, but with more blue sky. When it gets coldish here, it's usually with blue skies.
Blue sky, oh my, you're my sunny day
-
And I don't know what to make of UGA yet, but I suspect we'll find out today.
-
Friggin' docks are frosted over. C'mon sun! I need to go for a walk!!
-
Just ground the beans and French pressed my morning into action!
-
The wife bought me a French press a while back so I feel compelled to use it. I can't tell any difference versus the old coffee maker. I'd use a percolator if we had one. The wife has a Nespresso machine. We were looking at new ones in the mall the other day. She likes the sleek lines of the new ones. I guess they are ornaments now, like a painting on the wall or a sculpture or something, a piece of art.
It's an easy Christmas buy I guess.
It's coffee for crying out loud. I'm not a conniseur which is a word I can't spell.
-
Trying to decide what to throw in the oven later today. Not sure but it's going to be something heavy. The options are meatloaf, stuffed flank steak rolls, asparagus- and muenster-stuffed chicken breast, cordon bleu. I'm overzealous and sometimes short on time, so - today, tomorrow or Monday - they are all prepped for the (?) oven. (Maybe the steak rolls belong on the grill or frying pan. Undecided. Will accept advice.

Just blew water through a K-Cup to accomplish same.

I have a crusty Mr. Coffee and Costco coffee and I love them both

Ever do a meat loaf in cast iron on the grill (indirect heat)?
-
I have a flatiron steak in the fridge.
We picked up some cut tenderloin beef steaks from Costco on Wednesday and there is one left, enough for dinner, so we'll probably finish that after the LSU game. We can't have gas or charcoal grills here, bummer. I'm using a GFG now, which is not as bad as it could be.
I might try the hot cast iron approach. The wife likes her steaks blu rare and it's hard to get without a thick piece of beef.
The wife wants an inductive cooktop (again). We're in the initial stages of a kitchen redo. The Miele induction stoves are pricey.

I like the techniques that avoid filters, especially paper filters. The best tasting coffee constituents are the oils. And though some will inevitably escape a filter, their loss is primarily a function of surface area contact and a paper filter provides too much of that. When French Pressing pure beans (never adding cream or frothed milk), I get a cm or two of "head" (for the first two mug fills) like you see with a draft beer. That's a lot of tasty surfactant. And a drip brew never comes close (the foamy oils are never even visible).

My i s c & a aggie wife loves to buy small appliances. It's a strange obsession for her. I'm lucky, ultimately they're cheaper than shoes and clothes and women's accessories and she doesn't spend much at all on those things.
But appliances, wow.
Consequently we have 4 coffee makers-- our "main" Cusinart drip that's stylish, one new Kuerig that she bought for the new RV but now resides in the house, a Nespresso that I love for making espresso, and a cheap Mr. Coffee espresso/cappucino maker that's more trouble to use and I don't make frothed milk drinks anyway so the Nespresso is perfect for me. All four of those sit on our countertop in our "coffee bar" area. None of that even counts the old Mr. Coffee drip that came with the Airstream, so that's really 5 coffee makers. OH, and a French press that I lake to take when I go tent/back country camping.
We also have 4 blenders. We have one of those bullet things that she insisted on buying, I think because it was cute. Not sure she's ever used it. We have my old college/bachelor blender that works fine for pretty much anything. We have a new(er) Osterizer with the chrome beehive base that was a wedding present, and then we have the new Vitamix she bought a couple of years ago and I nearly choked on my food when she told me how much it cost. It does make perfectly smooth enchilada gravy with no need for straining, though, so I guess I shouldn't complain.
We also have 3 toasters. I have no idea why.
-

Never have. And unfortunately my grill (a Cobb) won't accommodate the cast iron I have. I like the idea though. Of the remaining options (in oven or on cast iron over stove), which do you suggest? Something else?

No cooking today, 11yo girl has a soccer double-header at 12 and 1, and the 9yo boy has a football game at 3. I'll have to record the Texas-Baylor game and watch it later. Maybe I'll cook something tonight, but it's more likely we'll go out for wings.

Yup. That was at least 50% of the reason why we killed the tailgate.

Sounds like she just needs to add an instant pot and an air fryer. And yeah, while expensive, the Vitamix is worth it. Juicing a basket full of tomatoes without peeling the skins is life changing.

We already have two different pressure cookers. I have strictly forbidden the instant pot. But, eventually she's bound to be influenced my pinterest or facebook and I have no doubt we'll have an instant pot at that point. Especially if there's a flashy one in stainless steel accents. She loves that stuff.
I've come around on the Vitamix. Like I said, it's perfect for enchilada gravy, and that's pretty much enough to get my vote. It also makes great frozen margaritas.

We had a coffee discussion on the old board a few years back. For some reason if you do use paper filters - it blocks the cholesterol properties in the coffee,so there's that
-
My wife is quite reasonable and rational about nearly everything. She dragged me into Cartier at the mall, but we just looked. Holy cow there is some pricey trinkets in there. I told her she could have the bracelet or the kitchen.
She also is fine with most of my extravagances, so we're balanced. And so far liquid.
She's nice to have around.
-
What are "cholesterol properties"? I can answer that chemically, like melting point and molecular weight, but I don't see how those properties can be blocked by a filter.
Cholesterol has 256 stereoisomers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereoisomer) that arise from its 8 stereocenters, although only two of the stereoisomers are of biochemical significance (nat-cholesterol and ent-cholesterol, for natural and enantiomer, respectively),[100] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cholesterol#cite_note-Westover_2003-101)[101] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cholesterol#cite_note-Kristiana_2012-102) and only one occurs naturally (nat-cholesterol).
Cut and pasted from wiki because I thought it fascinating.
-
Just blew water through a K-Cup to accomplish same.
same, seems good enough
plans are fluid here
going to a Hawkeye bar this morning at 10:30, if they won't put the Husker game on at the same time as the Hawl game I'll run home and watch the game at home and put chicken wings in the oven and finish them on the Weber grill
If the Hawk owner will allow the Skers and Cats on one of the screens I'll eat and drink there. Charlie Boys and frosted schooners.
High of 58 here today with some wind, might get a round of golf after the early game.
-

That makes sense and is a good thing to know. But much like sodium intake isn't established to matter much unless a person has high BP or heart/kidney disease, I probably will keep seeking out delicious cholesterol so long as my HDL ("good cholesterol") blood level stays this high.
-

Since coffee oils adsorb in a manner dependent on the surface area they contact (and are so thoroughly removed by a paper filter that the surfactant "head" is lost), I find it plausible that cholesterol will be likewise reduced by that method.
-
Hot weather finally broke in my neck of the woods. Morning run, first in a damn week, was abbreviated and kinda slow, but refreshing all the same.
I have a work thing in the afternoon, but hoping to catch the back end of UW-Michigan. Happy to live in a time where I’ll be able to get a condensed version for study tomorrow AM.

We just ordered our appliances for the kitchen.

We're keeping most of ours, except maybe the stove.

Still not used to fall season in Florida versus living in Michigan. Probably never will be. I guess you can take the boy out of the Midwest but you can’t take the Midwest out of the boy.
One positive is to have the tv on inside as well as the one on the patio, where I have a outside kitchen and a nice inground pool. I can sit outside and enjoy my K-cup coffee, watch football cook, swim, let the dogs swim, use the grill- all year long. Today is not humid thank god.
Grilling today, just not sure what. Ribs, steaks, or chicken, with some homemade hash browns.
Good games on all day and into the late night.

Aaaaaaah, fall is here. Feels great!

I suppose the oils are also lost because they foam and visible bubbles cannot navigate paper pores (not the same as adsorption and, in fact, this could be the better explanation).

This is a new build. We're going with a Thermador cooktop, and double oven. My same kitchen aid under counter ice maker and beverage fridge . The main fridge is a paneled built in subzero.

I don't remember the dishwasher. We also picked the countertops finally.

Daughter’s softball tournament was canceled due to weather. Cool and rainy here. I love it. Gives me an excuse to watch football all day. Basted some wings last night and have them ready to go in the smoker around 3. Also gonna grill some burgers.
Seems like Iowa St beating my Mountaineers is a pretty popular upset pick today. We’ll see.

I'll have a honey crisp apple on my way to the bar. Swallering my cholesterol pill with my coffee.
2 of those is the usual, about a 1/4 pound each, with a bag of jalapeno chips

Fall is definitely here in NE Ohio and I for one hate it. The only good part about it is a great Michigan schedule over the next month. Definitely a weekend to cook Chili. With beans of course.
-
Of course, don't care for the rain but have always loved the cooler weather

the Clones seem to knock someone off at home each season, I'd pick the Mountaineers to win, but not cover

Take another look. It looks like Bucky took a "swing" and then the robot fell over. I thought that was how it was supposed to work.

The kitchen at our new joint has the panel Sub Zero. Not sure I like that very much. I liked the look of the stainless fridge. It has a panel d/w too. GE profile along with the Advantium micro/convection/broiler. Wolf stove. That seems really nice so far.

I took them as my upset pick, but I was surprised how few points they were getting

Good news, it’s coming. This weather is always a sign that we’re a blink of an eye away from lake effect snow.
-
Getting that standard kind of nervous about the big game tonight. Waiting to see the program permanently transition out of rebuild mode to maintenance mode and finally climb out of Harbaugh's 5-8 record versus Top 25 teams.
-

Have 2 Oaks close to my house and I don't ever recall the barrage of acorns we've had this year. It doesn't necessarily mean a bad winter but the past two were relatively mild. But the two before that were ice-age cold.I have been filling at least one 5 gallon bucket a day from around the driveway with acorns. It seems to be subsiding but the last 3 weeks I thought I was next to a golf range
-
Harbaugh might someday have an all timer of a season like he did at Stanford.
For the most part Harbaugh's gonna Harbaugh; soundly beating the teams that he should, which will get him in or around the ten win club annually, keeping his job secure.

he needs to overhaul that offense and evolve. mainly his passing game. if he doesn't, he'll never live up to the promise.
Ed Warriner was a freaking great hire. He took a trash OL unit and through half a season he's made them a little bit better every single week. Still nowhere near they need to be, but I have been blown away but how much better he's made that OL. That dude is for real.
Don Brown is about as good as it gets for a DC, Mattison is about as good as it gets for a DL coach, and Mike Zordich has been impressive coaching up those CB's. Chris Partridge and Al Washington are young, energetic, great recruiters who have helped Michigan recruit at a high level on that defense. Washington has Michigan right in the thick of it for 5* all-everything DE recruit Zach Harrison. If they land Harrison- it'll be 100% because of Washington.
If they can't develop that passing game to get them over the hump, it'll be a real shame. Patterson is a big-time talent and with Black back not sure I've seen Michigan have WR's this talented in a long time.
Will be a waste of a pretty good special teams unit and an elite defense if they don't figure out that offense this year. Harbaugh wasted an elite defense in 2016 by having a lousy offense and losing to Iowa by 1 and blowing the game in Columbus.

The end to that season was perhaps entirely on Speight's injury. He was hobbled and newly erratic QB afterward and single-handedly gave OSU life, whereas before his two INTs, Don Brown had *completely* downloaded and paralyzed their offense.
Injuries happen. Great teams have answers and depth when they do. So of course it's bad that Michigan didn't have viable back-ups behind Speight. But in 2016, that one was mostly bad on Hoke for letting Al Borges - he who across more than a decade literally never recruited a QB who finished his college career as starter - pick the team's QBs.
-
It's sounding like both Solomon and Black may be back for the game tonight. Those are two of Michigan's best players. I hope they have very low snap counts. Their sustained health is essential to finish the schedule on top.

That 16 game was epic. But be honest, while UM neutered OSUs offense after their opening drive, they couldn’t stop them when it mattered. OSU had 2 long drives in the last 5 minutes, one resulting in a missed field goal, the next successful. Then in OT...
-
And Speight gave OSU 14 points. But yes, Michigan's defense wasn't truly perfect, just mostly. If Speight were uninjured, it'd have been enough to win, perhaps (likely?) by multiple scores. But OSU capitalized and won it themselves. That's the tapestry. And you're right, it was epic. Much moreso than 2006, TBH.
-
I wish UW would get some good news on the injury front. Need to have more DB's for today, and there is not much to be "heard" on anything right now.
-

Whoa!! Black? I thought we were talking late in the season for him.
-
Whoa!! Black? I thought we were talking late in the season for him.
Yeah, it showed up in the game thread last night. Black tweeted something cryptic and it was showing up soon after on the radio and, before any of this, the commentators in the USF-Tulsa game seemed to break the news. It's very weird but incrementing toward true.
-
Buckeyes give up a couple plays but then get a pick on a ill-advised throw from the Minny QB
-
Another beautiful deep throw from Haskins :)
-
Mack can't snag the touchdown pass, 3-0 Bucks
-
BTW I am in pure football mode - in my easy chair, Oktoberfest to my side, laptop plugged in, phone on Yahoo sports. After OSU I'll probably get the Switch out just to add to my ADHD
-
Wow, FS1 is still using an old outdated OSU logo that was revised well over five years ago.
-
Late hit.....
BS
-
I think Nebraska is ready to turn the corner.
-
Minnesota has a 400 pound freshman? Zero chance that's good weight.
-
And Speight gave OSU 14 points.
Stanley Jackson basically did the exact same thing vs Michigan the year they split the MNC with UNL.He cost us 10-14 pts in a game we lost by 6.It really hurt because Germaine had the highest QBR in the BIG at the time but ole Tennessee John thought it prudent to sit him. Then brought him in when it was obvious passing situations
-
I think Nebraska is ready to turn the corner.
Delightful. 4-8, here we come.
-
Good looking drive for the Mother Fleckers from Minnesota.
-
Gophs able to run the ball on OSU, march down and score. 7-3 Gophers.
-
Minny has to check that spot. Don’t think he got there.
-
That's how you take advantage of a terrible spot.
-
Oh man, how does Minnesota not check that spot? Instead of a turnover on downs Ohio St scores the next play.
-
Iffy spot, but great throw. 10-7. Let's see if the Buckeye defense wants to show up.
-
Wow. Like OSU need help from the refs. Bull*hit spot gifts OSU a TD.
-

Lol. Great screen name.

Wow. Like OSU need help from the refs. Bull*hit spot gifts OSU a TD.
That is definitely overstating it, he definitely reached the ball over, but question was whether he was down before pulling it back. Also, that was 45 yards from the end zone.
-
Minnesota has a 400 pound freshman? Zero chance that's good weight.
He's 6'9 or 6'10. Seriously. I think our conceptions of good OL weight are not relevant to a guy that tall.
-

Looked like he reached it over after his elbow was clearly down short of the line to make.
-
Well, the refs give it back to Minny on a truly terrible PI call
-
Are you talking about the 3rd down where the OSU runs into the Gopher WR before the ball arrived?
-
Minny looking good on offense.
-
Are you talking about the 3rd down where the OSU runs into the Gopher WR before the ball arrived?
The one where the Minny quarterback zinged it into the back of the OSU defender.
-
OSU getting killed on those slants
-
OSU's defense, especially up front, is very injured. So we should take this start with a grain of salt. Then again, play like this is a season-long trend.
-
And another Late Hit.
If you slow it down enough, it looks legit.
-
The one where the Minny quarterback zinged it into the back of the OSU defender.
That's PI in college football. Guessing that 4th down spot was right on?
-
That's PI in college football. Guessing that 4th down spot was right on?
No it isn't
-
See ya, 16. He’s made a couple nice plays already too.
-
I vaguely recall that changed that rule recently to protect sliding quarterbacks. But there is no reason to protect sliding quarterbacks, because there is no reason to slide.
-
Will they reverse the targeting call, like they did last time Minnesota was in Columbus? When OSU hit Leidner under the chin, made the call, then reversed it. Oh, that's because it was a pick 6.
-
I just don’t agree with that targeting call.
-
No it isn't
Amazing that TWO refs threw flags on that call.
-
Amazing that TWO refs threw flags on that call.
Yep, both quite wrong
-
I just don’t agree with that targeting call.
I don’t think there was any malicious intent to it but that was pretty textbook. Crown of the head into the face mask. That’s pretty cut and dried.

I just don’t agree with that targeting call.
I thought it was questionable. It was definitely a personal foul. That’s not where I want to see targeting called as a fan of the game.
-
Lol. Great screen name.
Thanks!
I'm glad that this board sprung up after the scout (?) board went bye bye.
-
I just don’t agree with that targeting call.
That's the classic example of it being the right call but the rule being terribly drawn. Either foot-first QB slides need to be outlawed (which is ludicrous) or those slides need to be ineligible for targeting once the player's head arrives lower than the height of their waist when standing.
-
Amazing that TWO refs threw flags on that call.
Absolutely. They have to call that, DB didn’t turn and look for the ball.
I know it’s frustrating from OSU standpoint, since they had the drive stopped
-
I don’t think there was any malicious intent to it but that was pretty textbook. Crown of the head into the face mask. That’s pretty cut and dried.
I think it was the correct call per the rule, but I don't like the rule that makes a runner a "defenseless player" because he starts sliding. It is too hard for defensive players to pull up.
-

Right on.
-
That is definitely overstating it, he definitely reached the ball over, but question was whether he was down before pulling it back. Also, that was 45 yards from the end zone.
What? He was pretty clearly down prior to getting the first down. I don't see how you could say any differently.
-
Good luck getting an offensive face mask called, Klatt. That is one of my pet peeves. Ball carriers routinely jam their hands into the facemask of a defender with nothing called.
-

Pass interference is intentional contact to prevent a completion. This call was made because he didn't turn around and look at the ball, even though that isn't part of pass interference in college football. It is was brutal call, because the ball has no chance of ever being completed, there was no intentional contact, and because the QB was bailed out for throwing a bad pass into tight coverage.
-
What? He was pretty clearly down prior to getting the first down. I don't see how you could say any differently.
Watch it again
-
Well, the refs give it back to Minny on a truly terrible PI call
Nonsense. That was absolutely the definition of PI. And after the horrible spot on that 4th down?
-

That exact language ("be sure to turn around") may not be written into the book, but it's been abundantly clear for at least 5 years, that this is a firm convention now. Watch Michigan DBs. If they turn their heads, they can get away with almost anything. That's the modern college game. Rejecting it does a coach or fan zero good.
-
Meanwhile, Florida's entire team is honest-to-god throwing the game vs Vandy. On purpose. I wish I was joking.
-
He's 6'9 or 6'10. Seriously. I think our conceptions of good OL weight are not relevant to a guy that tall.
If he were 5 years older, maybe. To be there at 18 is the concern
-

I know. But "convention" and the rule are two different things. That's why we get awful calls, when we look at convention instead of following the rules.
-
Man, without that bad call, Minnesota would be running away with this.
-
Minnesota is gashing Ohio St
-
OSU defense looks totally lost.
-
Eh, that looks like a catch and fumble to me.
-
I know. But "convention" and the rule are two different things. That's why we get awful calls, when we look at convention instead of following the rules.
That's fair. But be patient. Changes in convention often precede changes of law.
-

Yeah. The fact that he tucks the ball in his antecubital fossa (
-
That's fair. But be patient. Changes in convention often precede changes of law.
I'm pretty patient. It's always been a pet peeve when refs throw PI flags when a QB throw a hopeless pass into coverage. It happens fairly frequently and I don't expect it to change.

I missed the play in question and was just commenting generally. When the balls are overthrown by 10 yards (or out of bounds) and still get the flag, that's a pet peeve of mine, too.
-
I've never seen a worse double-reverse pass than Auburn's vs Tennessee.
Each step of the process was under pressure, then the QB ends up throwing the ball into the DE's chest. Yeesh.
-
UNL "tied" against NU at 2 TDs each ... except didn't. Failed PAT. 13-14 now.
-
Now that was a pretty catch
-
LOL. Great catch and great celebration.

I know Ash's tenure at Rutger has been trash, but am I crazy to think they should ABSOLUTELY keep him? I really doubt anyone would be to a bowl eligibility with that program right now. They need stability, not to fish for "the right coach." There's no panacea for Rutger. Only a commitment to a decade-plus of rebuilding with a coach who's up for it. And since Ash seems "meh probably good enough if he were elsewhere," I think you just need to roll with him forever.

This is a national broadcast.

Maybe? I'm generally a fan of stability, but dag, they seem worse than when he started. I mean, hire Schiano again.

A dreary, rainy day here in Phoenix believe it or not. Currently 68 degrees, not supposed to get much warmer.
ASU has a bye and TCU already lost, but still happy to watch some college football.

Announcers are rarely regional. Often not even when the game is on plural channels (excepting rare games like the NCG).
-
Minnesota really needs a stop right here before halftime. If Ohio St can score here it will really be deflating.

Yeah, I go to run out to my car in a t-shirt and shorts, and I have to do a u-turn to put on a hoodie. Cold and wet!

Wow, Vandy screwed the pooch there.

Thank christ

It's an OSU infomercial.

It's an OSU infomercial.
Par for the course when helmets play non helmets.
-
Where was this Thorson last week? Missing wide open TDs, throwing picks into double coverage.
-
It's "Pride Week" in the park today. The weather is spectacular. I went running this AM and then the wife and I walked around. Got some free paper towels from KMB.
I'm glad folks are proud of being proud.
It's a bit noisy at the moment though, like rather.
-
Lewerke absolutely has the skill set to run the Nebraska offense. This is more akin to what we should be doing next year.
-
It's an OSU infomercial.
That’s why I asked. It’s noticeably slanted in a way I thought maybe I was watching the local broadcast version. Here in Cleveland we have a channel that always has local Indians or cavs broadcasters even when the game is on a tnt or fox.
-
Northwestern's tackling is abysmal
-
Hurons up 28-3 on Toledo. I'll be surprised if they hang onto their coach much longer.
-
Gophs playing it safe on 3rd and long. Let's see if Bucks can actually get them into 3rd and long.
-
Feels like Gophs were getting a little wild in their effort to pressure Haskins. Let's see if the Bucks can make them pay for that.
-
OSU still at 2.9 y/rush. That should change as the half evolves. /youdthink
-
Minnesota not shy about running the ball on 3rd and long situations today.
-
OSU still at 2.9 y/rush. That should change as the half evolves. /youdthink
They haven't been very good running the ball for a few weeks now. Their yards are more due to the quantity of carries, not the quality.
-
Ugh. A really good drive ends in Minny gacking a 32 yard FG. Might want to mark that play down.
-
OSU pretty lucky in this game, and only up by 6
-
One would expect that UMinn gaffe to end the game. Normally, at least.

"Cold" [high of 69] and rainy day here in SoCal. We have the kids this weekend and we were going to take them out to the apple orchard with some friends, but the weather killed that. I'm not sad ;-)
This UNL/NU game is keeping me interested while I wait for my wife to come home from the store with some bloody mary mix and watch the Purdue game. Her bloody mary skills are exquisite.
Tonight I'm going throw Black Diamond marinated flank steak on the grill, with roasted Brussels sprouts and garlic bread on the side.
Good marinade by the way... I recommend it: https://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2017/06/black-diamond-steak-marinade-recipe.html
Per the other thread, maybe we'll break into some of the "good" wine tonight with dinner... Hopefully to celebrate a Purdue victory.
-
UNL still almost doubling up NU in yardage (442-237) and precisely in points (28-14).

Ever do a meat loaf in cast iron on the grill (indirect heat)?
Even better with some smoking wood in there...
One of the things I love about a Kamado grill. With a heat deflector it becomes a big coal-fired oven, but with the ability to throw in some smoking wood for flavoring.
-
Sounds like she just needs to add an instant pot and an air fryer. And yeah, while expensive, the Vitamix is worth it. Juicing a basket full of tomatoes without peeling the skins is life changing.
The Vitamix is great... If you're lucky like me, you've got in-laws who buy a lot of stuff they'll never use, and just give it to SWMBO.
That's how we got ours :)

Reminds me of that M-UNL game where Martinez had like 15 attempts, with one long of 32 yards ... but 22 yards total. Meaning that the other 14 attempts went for negative-10 yards.
Of course, this is Rutger and different.
-
They were setting that up all game, so credit to the Bucks for still defending there
-
Eh, I’m flipping to Pitt/ND. This game feels like it’s slipping away from Minnesota.
-
Had it on mute, didn't realizing they were reviewing spot, not catch. Trying to figure out what could possibly be in question there.
-
Prince has lost all confidence

Huge break for Minny with error on the spot after interception.
-
I don't agree with putting in the backups before the 3rd quarter is over, but I guess with us, keeping everyone healthy is job 1.
-
I shouldn’t say this as a WVU fan but I love the 80s uniforms of Pitt.
-
Prince has lost all confidence
For sure.. sadly, he was having a GREAT season up to today.
-
Had it on mute, didn't realizing they were reviewing spot, not catch. Trying to figure out what could possibly be in question there.
I knew there was zero chance this was a safety, but it did lead to a question from me:
Do you remember that "controversial" (except it was by the book) punt/kick return bobble by Jabrill Peppers versus Purdue from 2014 or 2015? He was near the endzone, made contact with the ball in the field, but the punt's momentum followed into the endzone, where Peppers sat on it for a touchback, whereas Purdue fans expected a safety?
The situation there was all about momentum. (Had Peppers caught it, made a move and fumbled it backward, the situation would have been wholly different.) Is that just for punts or for INTs like this too? Clearly Pryor caught it in-play and the momentum carried him into the endzone. Obviously not a safety.
I'm just asking if the rule book spells this out similarly as for punts/kickoffs ... or if the language has the same result but is not a safety for another reason.
-
Pitt goes straight down the field on ND. 7-0.
-
Huge break for Minny with error on the spot after interception.
I thought it was debatable. It wasn't at the 2 for sure. I thought it was either possessed at the 1 or in the endzone. I did think he got it in the field of play (but don't mind being doubted here), in which case even though a 1-yard spot might have been more true, a 2-yard spot was more friendly for OSU.
Also: except for the point of possession, I wasn't paying close attention. So please let me know if there was another factor that trumps "point where the ball is finally possessed" to you. For me, all I thought I noticed was that the ball was INT'd at ~1 yard line and that the Minnesota receiver (now a defender) immediately put hands on Pryor (now an offenseman), which I wondered might lead to that spot as one of forward progress.
-

I edited my post and just want to be clear about yours. Are you saying that he eventually possessed the ball in the endzone or that he *only* ever possessed the ball in the endzone.
My thought was that (1) Pryor bobbled then caught and possessed the ball in the field of play, (2) was touched by the Minnesota receiver, and then (3) fell into the endzone still possessing the ball.
I figured that mix of possession and contact at the 1-yard line was key to the spot.
-
Such a weird game. OSU about to win 30-14. Fanbase about to set fire to the team.

It is the same as if he was an offensive player catching the ball. Would it have been a TD? Of course . His momentum carried him into the end zone. Touchback.

An you imagine if Haskins was as accurate as other QBs on those kind of throws?
-

That was the thing I was getting at. Thanks. I think the ref treated it as a "stopped forward progress" situation the second the Minnesota player touched Pryor.

What's the takeaway? Are they thinking Frost was a mistake, or is it just the normal sort of vitriol where they have no idea what to do with themselves after an 0-6 start?
-
LSU gets a drive and a field goal. 3-0
-
Illinois and Purdue trade punts. Ball back to the Illini about 5 minutes into the 1st.
-
1st and goal for ND and Pitt sacks them on 3 consecutive plays.
-
This is why you need to go to a 100% challenge system. Why are you wasting all of our time reviewing a clear catch with not one, but two feet inbounds? No coach would have wasted his time challenging that.
-
Pitt goes into the break up 7-6.

Lewerke needs to at least be solid to have a shot, and he continues to suck.

Pitt needs to stick with the classic unis.
I can't believe UNL lost!
-
Pitt goes into the break up 7-6.
they have to complete passes to win this. problem is the WR/TEs are terrible. Even when Pickett was 5-6 on that 1st drive they were blanketed.
-
Purdue down 7-0.
Dare a QB to beat you through the air, and then he throws a 52-yard wheel route to the RB.
-
Sam Ehlinger out of the game with an apparent injury for Texas.
-
Going to be another long season. At least we get to see some freshmen with all the injuries. So there's that.
-
What's the takeaway? Are they thinking Frost was a mistake, or is it just the normal sort of vitriol where they have no idea what to do with themselves after an 0-6 start?
Looks like a little from column A and a little from column B.
Nebraska boards haven't been in meltdown mode like this for years, mostly apathetic.
Today, they are having a meltdown that make Penn St and Michigan meltdowns appear tame, by comparison.
-
Lewerke needs to at least be solid to have a shot, and he continues to suck.
What channel is that game on? I can’t seem to find it.

Purdue with a quick response. 7-7. Coaches remembered that forward passes are legal.

Not that Frost was a mistake but that in this game mistakes were made. Most of of the disdain is about letting NW going 99 yards with no timeouts. More of a " The Buck stops here" kinda thing.

TD for ND. 2 pt conversion no good. Pitt up 14-12.

It's very small time, I'm shocked it's still a thing. The Lions at least used to use it, not sure if they still do. That is worthy of that franchise, not PSU

You have to get Sowards out of there. I'd rather use a reserve DB, he already has 4 drops

Nice scramble Lew

Maybe. But the run game is far better today, despite the competition ramping up. What's your thought on that?

Keep it up Sparty
-
Maybe. But the run game is far better today, despite the competition ramping up. What's your thought on that?
Did you see them need 4 plays to score from the 1? It's been slightly better I guess., But still horrible. Particularly considering PSU could probably cover the one scholarship WR we are playing, and commit everyone else to pressuring the backfield.
-
Where are the page numbers for posts?
Temporarily invisible (on mobile only). Drew acknowledged he was doing work on code and accidentally hid them. Says they'll be back within the week (I think).
-
Considering I'm not confident the offensive personnel we are running out there right now would even be a good spring game split squad offense, I'm not overly convinced we should have called a timeout there.
-

PSU could take knees the rest of the game and win. MSU isn't winning absent a special teams or defensive score.

Probably ... never. They are full in on piped hype. They honestly shouldn't even have a band anymore. Just put 100 speakers on 100 radio flyer red wagons and have volunteers drag them across the field pregame and at halftime.

Apparently they are scared to give PSU 60 yards with 8 seconds?

Damn I'd have tried it PSU wouldn't have been much better off

I did. The last series was bad, too. Still, when I posted, they were above 4.2 or so per rush. Which ... is average. And against a good D.

I did. The last series was bad, too. Still, when I posted, they were above 4.2 or so per rush. Which ... is average. And against a good D.
Also counts like 50 yards on a fake punt run.
-
Also counts like 50 yards on a fake punt run.
Missed that while flipping. I did hear there were some trick plays on one drive. Classic MD
-
Pitt tries a fake punt that ND was simply waiting on. 19-14 with roughly 3:30 to play.
-
That tug on the ND defender they ignored was more aggregious than the phantom PI they called on Pitt last drive
-
Missed that while flipping. I did hear there were some trick plays on one drive. Classic MD
Fake punt run for like 45-50, halfback pass for 30. That's our offense at this point with mostly walk on on the field.
-
Ore and Texas both take leads
-
Big mistake by Book to slide rather than dive there.
-
ND with a 4th and 1 at the Pitt 36 with 2:28 left. Pitt just took its last timeout.
-
The extent to which some of these favorites (ND, OSU, PSU) are failing expectations is making me very nervous about 7:30.
-
Wow, Brian Kelly goes full stupid
-
Panthers stop them.
-
Big mistake by Book to slide rather than dive there.
Enormously.
Not sure what to root for here. I suppose if Michigan takes care of business, it doesn't matter what ND does. In that case, go Fighting Narduzzis! That guy looks good in blue, btw. The whole team looks great, actually. Really crisp uniforms today.
-
Ore and Texas both take leads
CBS is goofy 5 minutes ago they had ore up 23-22 now it 17-17 SMDH
-
Chambers playing through an apparent broken finger, probably still better than Sowards.
-
Alright Sparty for 16 nice
-
Fuck you Pitt. We don’t need your help.
-
Nice snag by Davis there
-
I like Heywards ability, but his vision is not that of a running back. Probably wouldn't be there if not a need.
-
Chambers playing through an apparent broken finger, probably still better than Sowards.
And the first pass to him deflects off his wrapped hand for a pick.
-
Well Sparty has a long rowe to hoe
-
I'm settled into this one for good. Just noticed that Chewins tackle on the INT. Tough deflection there, but the effort by Chewins was good. He looked limber. Is he 100% back? Or doing well?
-
Wow defense stands tall again. Two horrible big plays surrendered and that has literally been it.
-
MSU slips back in
-
The extent to which some of these favorites (ND, OSU, PSU) are failing expectations is making me very nervous about 7:30.
So, your worried that your team will win, but not cover the spread?
-

He says he is, he sure doesnt look it protecting the pocket. But when they've rolled Lewerke out, they've rolled him left, and he's looked better. If it's a back injury, I wonder if he has his mobility back, but going straight up still hurts.
-
Crap Domers get it done
-
TD nice drive Sparty
-
So, your worried that your team will win, but not cover the spread?
Ha. If only. Our opponent is tougher than PSU's, ND's, and OSU's, so a Wisconsinward shift of 10ish in the spread is the difference between win and loss. Of course, these things are half-superstitious. But the other half is that, clearly, predicting football games is very very hard. That's the part that's sticking with me.
-
Well announcers and Mike Pierera think it shouldn't just be upheld, but confirmed, so surely the booth will overturn it.
-
Don't call them Shirley
-
I have a hard time getting a handle on PSU.
I have an equally hard time getting a handle on 2018-McSorley.
-
Sparty defense standing up today.
-
I have a hard time getting a handle on PSU.
I have an equally hard time getting a handle on 2018-McSorley.
His OL isn't doing him a ton of favors. Getting more pressure with 4 than I've seen all year. He's throwing into 7 man coverages with a guy in his face most of the time.
-
Lewerke seems to have no grasp of the fact that the field has width and length. He throws short passes all the way across the field like they are dump offs
-
Who the hell is Welch?
-
Who the hell is Welch?
Apparently yet another walk on
-
How is that not reviewed? Second turnover the refs have stolen.
-
Holding on PSU
-
Texas misses a short FG. Still up 23-17 over Baylor.
-
How is that not reviewed? Second turnover the refs have stolen.
It's maddening how often that particular error happens. I'm not an insider; don't actually know how it is, but I am guessing that whereas the review room needs to be militarily regimented (alert, rigorous, fast), it generally feels like they're lounging ("oh, what?, should I call down, let me look, hmm ... oops they snapped").
I hear that job goes to retirees. Maybe they are great and I am undervaluing. But the symptoms and that fact does not inspire confidence.
-
Beefed it

It at least used to. Dick Hoenig, who was a ref for a while, then retired and opened his own reffing goods store in Ann Arbor, was one of the initial one. I believe he's the one who beefed the Brandon Minor call in 2008, where the pilon was laying out of bounds and Minor landed on it well out of bounds, and he overturned the call in perhaps the worst replay overturn of all time
-
Way to seize momentum
-
its 2018 and the FG cam that B1GN uses displays everything in 240p.
-
Seems like their TE is open every time they look at him
-
Xavier Henderson is not ready for this moment.
-

It's that an joke-estimate or precisely the case? I know the real answer is bad but am not sure if it's also pitiful.

Good non call
-
Lions get 3 c'mon Sparty
-
After the replay of the previous play showed a straight up tackle on the defender, might not want to boo a no PI
-
Enjoying this Penn State Michigan State game
-
Great job limiting PSU to 3.
Meanwhile the LSU Burrows are putting away Georgia.
-
LSU up 26-9. Just about ready to put this one to bed.
-
Georgia in deep trouble
-
Can't believe he caught that
-
How has PSUs DC not yet figured out MSU has one healthy scholarship WR?
-
PSU got away with an unnecessary roughing call after that run.
-
Saw earlier today LSU has won something like six straight at home against top 10 teams...
...not named Alabama.
-
Jefferson nice run
-
Baylor down 6 with the ball and a little over 5 minutes to play
-
It's that an joke-estimate or precisely the case? I know the real answer is bad but am not sure if it's also pitiful.

the image is blurry and not stablized if they'd use it more I'd probably get sick
-
BTW Washington Oregon also a heck of a game
-
Dantonio ain't trying to tie
-
I don't get it,why not go for it at the end of the 1st half?.Credit for the gutsy call but ya might not have had to
-
I don't mind playing for the lead there, but not like that.
-
Live by the sword; die by it, too. I think MD would call it exactly the same if he could retry, though. It hurts to come away without points, but that itch to try is in his bones.
-
MSU has all 3x outs, make it work MD
-
I love that about MD. Balls!
-
What the hell PSU - I flip to LSU and flip back to see them punting, after like a minute has run, and MSU still has all their timeouts.
-
Burrow just ripped off a 60 yard run to seal it.
-
Gary was a game time decision. Sounds like he’s out.
That’s HUGE for Wisconsin. Gary is probably the best run defending DE in the entire sport. What does Wisconsin wanna do? Run, run, run and run some more.
-
I love that about MD. Balls!
Not at the end of the 1st half.Virtually the same scenario with a TO and 8 seconds and he punts.Literally there was no harm taking a chance there
-
Burrow just ripped off a 60 yard run to seal it.
Ya know had Urban played him & Haskins last season with the beef on those lines. What could have been .....

oregon has a top 10 pick at QB and they saved their timeouts to ice the Washington kicker

The PSU OL has consistently lost the battle today. Often overwhelmingly. Their lead is 100% about the PSU>>>MSU skill position margin.

Agree. MSU has won this game at the LoS and they still might lose. That’s rare.
Usually you win that match up front you win the game.

Be nice if Badgers/Wolves is as close as this

Hey it worked!

The amount of hate thrown at Meyer and Harbaugh vs. Franklin is quite curious.

Baylor inside the Texas 20 with under 20 seconds left.

Gary was a game time decision. Sounds like he’s out.

From their own fans? Completely agree. His in-game decision making has always been suspect.

UW kicker pooped the bed.

Huge mistake by McSorley
-
On PSU's weak growl:
USCe has a very strong rooster crow they play incessantly
Miss State pipes in fake crowd noise
Auburn alternates between eagle cries and strong tiger growls
-
Nelson c'mon sparty
-
How many INTs is Lewerke going to throw right to the other team and they drop?
I’ve seen at least 3.
He sure gets away with a lot of stupid throws.
-
Damn Nelson down back-back injuries
-
How does MSU have 10 more 1st downs than PSU, yet PSU is averaging 6.4 ypc?

25 seconds one TO left

They do it,what a fookin' contest.Top that Bucky & Weasels - WOW

Only one stat that counts - just win baby

13 seconds left,white knuckler

PSU fans getting some long ride home lately
-
Wanted MSU to win. Thought it’d bode better for Michigan next week.
Having said that, I have been thoroughly unimpressed with Lewerke. Penn State blew that game. Lewerke threw INTs right to their dbs that should’ve ended that game many times over.
-
Congrats MSU/PSU The Lions have gotten their hearts ripped out at home the last 2 games there
-
I really thought it would be an overtime forcing FG instead of a TD.
Nice win, Sparty.

Took 2 plays for Bama to score a TD. Took 2 plays to get the ball back from Mizzou. 10-0 in the blink of an eye. Sheesh.
-
Yup, sounds like Black is still out. And Gary is in street clothes. Woof.
Solomon and Dwumfour are dressed. And we're really going to need them.
Kwity Paye. Step into the spotlight. It's your time.

100%.
Penn State DBs had way too many chances to end that game. Blew them all.
You want to be a great db? You gotta make those plays. Period.

Gary should’ve had off season shoulder surgery.
Or at least sat out every game post ND.
They really mishandled him. It’s a freaking joke.

That's conjecture. We don't have enough of his personal medical details to know.
Maybe.
At the very least should’ve sat him vs WMU, SMU, Nebraska, and Northwestern. He wasn’t needed. Let him rest. Why risk it??
He aggravated things worse and is now out vs Wisc.

I think ELA has left us for the next little while. Off running. Through the quad.

Literally had the ribs timed on the grill for the end of the game, figured no way MSU with a second team offense was winning in Happy Valley.
-
WVU trails for the first time this season. 13-7 ISU. Just missed the XP. We’ll see if that comes back to bite them.
-
I'm no defensive mastermind but WVU's stragety should be to tackle that Montgomery guy
-
Hell of a snag by Higedon there
-
M moving the sticks
-
Patterson seems too eager to ditch the pocket
-
Welp
-
Eff. Fine drive to start. Could have really used that Milton snap we set on fire (there's something there [I defer to coaches as better at this than I] but I didn't "get it"). But no points hurts. That drive deserved points. Come on Nordin. This style of game, you're needed so bad.
-
Patterson seems too eager to ditch the pocket
He has been eager, but I don't think too eager. It's not because of pressure. It's because these are short routes and covered. It's the smart move.
-
Taylor not easy to tackle
-
Hornibrook with and without pressure is ENTIRELY different.
-
We'll keep missing Gary, and the DL depth isn't like in 2016 (may be next year), but with Winovich/Kemp/Mone/Paye being spelled by Uche/Dwumfour/Solomon/Hutchinson ... we can do this.
I'm wondering if maybe between having only Gary or Dwumfour+Solomon (a senseless-means-nothing "choice" but stay with me), that this is the beter scenario.
-
Commercial-Punt-Commercial?
Woof. Telecasters have too much power over our game.
i ADORE the fact that Michigan Stadium is one of two spots nationwide without in-stadium advertising. But, honestly, let's go the FIFA route and paste the field and jerseys with subliminals if it means we can have zero commercials during each quarter.
-
Now that's how you take advantage of an inexperienced secondary. Wiscy's safety still trying to figure out what happened
-
Time for BENCH Mason
-
Was that a double touchdown?
-
This moment will be relived poorly for me if Michigan loses, but that was shades of ... Steven Threat v. Wisconsin. Except of course about everything else about Michigan being entirely the opposite.
-
Man ball TD Wolvies
-
Was that a double touchdown?
Unusual, right? Higdon never fumbles. Maybe we just learned why. Vice grip. Caught Shea's arm and stole his body for the ride.
-
WVU rarely plays a complete game. You tune into them at the right time and you'll think they are surefire favs to win the B12. However just about every single week they usually go through long stretches where they look more like say Illinois than a playoff team. They are in one of those stretches right now.
They'll probably play a lot better during this game but they better get out of this funk before its 27-7
-

Tempting the football gods tonight are we?
Superstition is for ... not me. Also: apparently yes.
-
Some ridiculous blocking on that drive
-
That was a failure at multiple levels. Woof. And to finish it off, Watson bit hard and removed himself from the play. Wierdest.
-
Some ridiculous blocking on that drive
That drive made me regret my comment about Solomon/Dwumfour over Gary.
-
Need a halftime Don Brown adjustment already. Also need every offensive drive to score this half (just one? two tops).
-
That drive made me regret my comment about Solomon/Dwumfour over Gary.
Yeah, they could use their freak of nature to tackle Wiscy's freak of nature.
-
eff. 60y punt, plz

Looks like the Big Ten football gods are going to deliver a hell of a triple header today.
-
I don't understand that Ambry end-around. Setting up a ... fake end-around?
Stop trying to be that variety of creative. Work the slot, TE, deep and out routes passing and the creative FB/HB blocking on the ground. That's your system.
-
wow totally dominated and have to chance to only go down by 6 at the half.
-
Not sure what kind of blocking set up that was supposed to be
-
Please pass every down, UW. Not because Hornibrook isn't great but because Michigan without Gary operates at a FAR higher level versus that. Taylor meanwhile is a morcellator. He's ruining us. Gary's job is to force that edge in by yards on the run. Woof do we miss him.
-
My goodness!
/1880s.
-
I am really nervous about Nordin tonight. Normally I love him. But that miss. And then Rece mentioned how erratic he was pregame. Effie eff.
-
I wonder what PFF rates that pass
-
I wonder what PFF rates that pass
Haha. You guys.
-
ISU completely outplaying WVU but still just a 20-14 game due to a blocked FG returned for a TD by WVU.
-
Well Wiscy making them earn it nearer the end zone
-
Mgoblog mentioned this week that Wildgoose decommitted twice late in the last recruiting cycle and that teams, including Wisconsin, had to go on "an eponymous chase" to get him. I thought that was hilarious.

Kwity is a future favorite of mine.

I want to see a simple 6 yard hitch right out of the gate in the second half. Grier is holding the damn ball way too long. ISU is playing soft on the outside.
-
The concerns about Patterson's fumbling were no joke
-
What origin is a name like "Dwunfour"???
-
Why is Wisconsin not calling timeout? Just to at least give Michigan consequences for a failed hail Mary. Now they can do it risk free.
-
Wisconsin should have called TO there. At ~30. Not to guarantee they'd drive, but to make M uncomfy about kicking.
-
I can't recall ever seeing the UW line this overmatched
You mean their DL, right? Because their OL has been fantastic. It evened out a bit there at the end, but still. They're doing work.
-
I can't recall ever seeing the UW line this overmatched
They don’t look overmatched on running plays at all. Hell, even on pass plays, they seem to be doing great man v man, they just can’t figure out where the extra guy(s) are coming from on Browns blitz schemes.
-
In order to make the end of that half count, Michigan needs to score first. **Usually**, these twenty nonregulation minutes is when Don Brown does his best work, so maybe it doesn't have to be that first drive. But, no, points on this next drive. Need them for the score to be proportional to the game so far.
-

Eh, they've been ok on run plays, pass plays, ick.

Game changing call. Feel bad for badgers there, kind of borderline.

Ole Miss is losing the SEC's Toilet Bowl by 10. Yes, the same team that beat Texas Tech, who beat Okie St and TCU.

Sad to see Anthony Carter these days

Badge said we'd stack the box. I said that wasn't DB's style. Lookie who wasn't correct (me)
-
Hornibrook finally made a tough throw and his WR drops it.
-
Sad to see Anthony Carter these days
I feel the same. I wish Michigan were more driven to compensate him in proportion to his legend. That's not capitalism, I get it. But it's family.
-
Is Gerard Butler even trying anymore? He was a borderline A star like a decade ago. Nownits like if a shitty action movie is even too shitty for Liam Neeson or Jason Stadham, call Butler.
-
Hornibrook finally made a tough throw and his WR drops it.
Finally? I thought 2 of his first three throws (all completions) were to tiny windows. Of course, then he nerfed 4 or 5 in a row. So I guess I'm not outright objecting to your comment, just clarifying that it's his first in a while, not first overall.
-
Ole Hornibrook isn't going to have too many completions that go over 20 yards down the field in the air tonight.
-
I feel the same. I wish Michigan were more driven to compensate him in proportion to his legend. That's not capitalism, I get it. But it's family.
I met him and John Wangler, god maybe 20 years ago, and even then, my 12ish year old self could tell something was off. Wangler was sharp as a tack
-
Ha, the hell, Harbaugh. Who's mind are you trying to mess with?
-
I met him and John Wangler, god maybe 20 years ago, and even then, my 12ish year old self could tell something was off. Wangler was sharp as a tack
They were both on the GameDay set before noon. Same. Gotdammit.

Agree with Herbs and Fowler. Don Brown tries to make teams one dimensional and then takes them over. This is the plan.

Honestly not sure why Wiscy is throwing at all

If this isn't a fake, Chryst is an archaic punter.
Noted.
-
Wow, pass/punt on 3rd and 3 down 14 in UM territory? Not a fan of UWs management of much tonight
-
I get being conservative, but man, throwing on third down and short and then punting from there is some Strom Thurmond levels of conservative
-
Honestly not sure why Wiscy is throwing at all
Because now that it's predictable, assuming it stays predictable, it's over. They can still gash, but the box is stacked against them. That's not how Michigan usually plays. Usually they read. Right now, they're crashing. That's a schematic disadvantage for UW.
-
Wow, pass/punt on 3rd and 3 down 14 in UM territory? Not a fan of UWs management of much tonight
Weird when Michigan isn’t stopping runs.

Sure, but they are running the ball well, even against the loaded box. Hell of a lot better than they are throwing it.
-
Sure, but they are running the ball well, even against the loaded box. Hell of a lot better than they are throwing it.
I agree. But they need a huge chunk. It's unrealistic to move down the field in 2-7 yard chunks against this defense. 5-7 is great. That realistic potential isn't the problem. It's the variance against a newly stacked box that is the issue. All it takes is two out of three snaps on the low end to force a punt. That's ... not improbable. UW has this incredible strength but is stuck not able to fully deploy it like they want.
-
I know they'll just be 3-3 but the schedule has been crazy hard and ISU deserves to be ranked after this.
This is a straight up beatdown, and really it should be like 44-7 right now.
-
So now the B1G West title runs through Penn State?
That's kind of funny.
-

It's 11-minutes from finished. But yes that's one potential implication.

Sure, but the problem is they aren't going down the field, so even if they complete these passes they wouldn't get much yardage. Also all their chunks have come in the run game.

pick 6 on Horny-book.
-
Wisconsin eerily resembles Maryland this year.
This looks very similar to our game last week at Michigan.
-
Wisconsin is awful. But they will probably still win the West.
The schedule sets up okay for Iowa I suppose, getting Penn St at home while Wisconsin has to play them on the road.
-
Good to see the shaky camera at Jack Trice Stadium remains a staple.
-
Sure, but the problem is they aren't going down the field, so even if they complete these passes they wouldn't get much yardage. Also all their chunks have come in the run game.
I'm not vehemently disagreeing. Just pointing out how stuck. Like on this drive. Variance is what's forcing the 4th. And the runs are killing the clock. Double whammy.
-
pick 6 on Horny-book.
Went more than 20 yards!

Miami takes a pair of personal would to lose the game at Virginia.
-
Wisconsin is awful. But they will probably still win the West.

I don’t think Wisconsin is awful at all. Give credit to the Wolverines. They have played extremely well on offense and defense, using both muscle and speed. They choked the life out of the Badgers over time.
Plus, road games in conference are HARD, and against a really good team even HARDER, plus at night—exceedingly HARD.
-
awful is my usual hyperbole. Rutgers is awful.
Wisconsin is good by B1G West standards, but would not fare very well in the B1G East, imo.
-
Wisconsin eerily resembles Maryland this year.
This looks very similar to our game last week at Michigan.
There are some similarities. And though it's hard to say whether UW deserves a ranking this high, and though their competition has been mediocre, I do think they are on a different level than UMds.
Similarity: Both have explosive run games. Difference: forgive me, but UW's is far more durable/reliable (impossible to put under Michigan's thumb).
They are also very similar on defense.
The QBs are very different, though. Hornibrook is actually great - one of the Big Ten's best. But Michigan is by far the best pass defense in america. They're ruining Alex in a major way. By design.
-
Ah, I could have beat Michigan.
RPO with Piggy and WR screens are Don Brown's nightmare. I know this. He was OUR DC at one time.
The offense only moved when Piggy got in the game.

Down goes WVU

:- )
-
Really ISU would have just about beaten anyone tonight.
-
When it's his time, McCaffery will be fun.
-
There are some similarities. And though it's hard to say whether UW deserves a ranking this high, and though their competition has been mediocre, I do think they are on a different level than UMds.

I can agree with you all the up to talking about how good Hornibrook is.. I just don’t see that.

Going into this he had been arguably (but not necessarily: bc Haskins) the most efficient QB in the conference. He's low usage but had maximally capitalized on those few tries. What he did against Iowa, for example. That was cold-blooded and had been his whole year ... until tonight. This was a mismatch.
Whether Michigan wins out until OSU or loses in between, the best remaining question is how Michigan's pass D will match versus Haskins. It could potentially be #1 nationally v. #1 nationally.
-
While you weren't watching, Miami went full Miami today.
2 min left. UVA 17 Miami 14. Miami stops UVA on 3rd down. Then out of nowhere about 2 sec after the whistle a player from Miami steamrolls a UVA player from behind. PI 1st down.
-
This is a big win for Michigan. I didn't think that they would win this one before the season started.
I still think the Sparty game will trip them up next week. They'll be high off of their press clippings, and MSU will play like it's their Super Bowl.
Penn St might be in trouble, heading into the Big House.

20 yard pass completed

Efficient- hell yes. When your offensive line and RB run over everyone, especially the lessor teams.
One of the best in the big? I wouldn’t even tank him in the top 5,if I were putting together a team together my own team.
Give me Haskins, or McSorley, or Lewerke, or Ramsey, or Thorson, or Patterson or maybe even Nate Stanley.
He is perfect for Wisconsin, at least until tonight, where yes Michigan effected him, but he stunk even when they didn’t.
-
It's greedy, I know, but this drive is bumming me out. I wanted stats that showed more destruction than this.

Yeah, Hornibroom really struggles to get the ball down the field. The best way to attack Michigan is going down the field.

As far as OSU passing game, UM already has one huge advantage; Buckeyes are already one dimensional.
Michigan is very balanced, especially now with adding a true threa at QB on the read option. I don’t see them losing anytime soon, unless they just lay an egg somewhere.

I'd prrrrobably take Hornibrook over Lewerke, Ramsey and Stanley. Lewerke in particular is having a rough year. You'll point out the surrounding pieces though (OL especially) and of course that's correct. But because consistent pressure can get into a guy's head and ruin him, that isn't really a factor we should peel away. Lewerke has often showed signs of fear and regression this season (both relative to last year and as this one has progressed). It's been cumulative.

I have always felt you were too enamored by shiny things like stats.

I don't know about that.
You can't just sit back there all day waiting for WR's to get open against Don's defense.
You have to go sideline to sideline with RPO IMO.
Option football works well at times.
-

I will admit that. His arm is not strong. His efficiency is not as transferable to, say, the NFL. But it's amazing (in other games) within Chryst's system.
-

I am and know it. Which is why it's healthier to say it out loud than keep it to myself. Go on. Make fun. I enjoy deserving it.

Wow. That settles it. Joe Milton *actually* passed Brandon Peters on the depth chart. That's ... seismic. Expect a transfer.
-
Wisconsin hasn't been very competitive against the big three in the B1G East lately.
Two years ago they lost to Michigan and OSU, then lost to Penn St in the Ccg.
Last year they didn't have to play anyone and went undefeated, but then lost to OSU in the Ccg.
Now they are getting creamed by Michigan, and will probably lose pretty bad at Penn St. I don't like their chances if they get to the Ccg.
0-fer the last three seasons.
-

It was already happening. Might be a chicken/egg scenario. Why give game reps to a guy who isn't part of your future?
-
Ole Miss not quitting yet

Chase Winovich is such a[n elitely talented football] puppy
-
Ole Hornibrook isn't going to have too many completions that go over 20 yards down the field in the air tonight.
Needs better receivers. Only a little more than 30 percent of his yards are after the catch. He’d be better off around 61 like that OSU fella.
(To be clear, I think Haskins is a better QB. But the level of salty defensiveness is oddly, not quite amusing, but interesting to me)
-

I never went further than wondering. Tonight I learned. Did you have insider info or maybe just a better sleuthing skill than me?

If this isn't a fake, Chryst is an archaic punter.
He is most archaic

No, just speculation.

Hasn’t beaten you mean.
They’ve been competitive before last night, those four games you mentioned were all by 7 or 6 points.
This isn’t ideal, but they played right with more talented teams. The 2016 title game really stings. Badgers were up 21 at one point I think.
-
Good Lord Arkansas. Ole Miss may actually score too fast here
-
Usually UW manges to stay close enough. Felt like it could go that way up til it was 21-7. UW kinda went into meltdown mode. Haven’t seen that for a while.
I wrote this somewhere, maybe here. UW had five years in a row where the most disappointing team won 11 games despite brutal QB play. We were due a disappointment. I’m annoyed it came with Michigan getting them points, but UM’s offense is top-30 good, UW’s defense is bad and when you get bad Hornibrook (that Michigan forces), it’ll go that way.
-
Man, Ole Miss and Arkansas are two crappy, poorly coached, horribly disciplined teams

Key distinction. I know as a Michigan fan. Whose team hasn't been as consistent as yours but has had at least one CFB-type team, except the dice hit an edge and it didn't show up in the win column.
Competing won't impress everyone (and Alabama, Clemson, UGa and OSU fans have had the luxury to sometimes only be happy with more), but realistically the only way to break through to their level is to first sit in that zone where you're in the race and a tremendous chore to defeat.
-

That's probably more accurate.
They may be a cut above MSU, but MSU fares better against those teams, probably due to the familiarity of playing them every year.
-

I think it might be something else, but something super interesting.
So MSU has this fascinating ability to turn big games into weird rock fights and small ones into surprise shootouts. And it means the Spartans have oddly high variance. This year they beat PSU and lost to NW. Or beat OSU in 2015 and lose to 6-7 Nebraska.
UW on the other hand is mostly consistent. They usually stay close to good/very good teams but win around 25-30 percent of those games and for the most part handle equal or lesser teams. They're actually a good test case for recruiting rankings because their record against better recruiting teams trends toward average, but they're really above average against teams that recruit at the same level or worse.
And if you look at the team from 2010 onward, this is the second-worst loss (behind 59-0), and the next closest is 18 to National champ Bama, then by 10, twice, in that stretch of 21 total losses.
-
Today was in my opinion a good day for Iowa.
First, the 42-16 win over Indiana.
Second, Iowa State wins 28-14, which now gives Iowa a win over a quality team that defeated two consecutive top 25 teams.
Third, Michigan over Wisconsin gives Iowa an outside shot at the Big Ten West championship. Wisconsin still has games @Penn St, @Northwestern, and @Purdue. (Iowa would have to win-out, and Wisc. lose once. Iowa has @Penn St, too).

Heh, that's a blast from the past! (17 pages ago). :)
In 2008 I bought a vintage 1963 Airstream in "survivor" condition. It was campable, mostly original, but had all of the issues that an almost 50-year-old trailer should have. The plywood flooring was rotting away in the places you'd expect (under the bathtub, under the windows that eventually leak, etc.). The steel frame underneath was also rusting away in some of those some same areas. I knew when I bought it, that it required a complete frame up restoration. That's ok, I paid accordingly.
We used it for a season as-is, which was a lot of fun. But then I demo'd it, took out all the furniture, pulled up the rotten flooring, had a steel frame shop cut out the old rusted our framing, and weld in brand new replacement pieces. Then I put in new marine-grade plywood flooring, rebuilt most of the furniture, rehabbed more of it, installed a new freshwater tank and a new gray tank. Also put in a new A/C. I stripped about 2/3 of the interior paint and polished what I could, put in new aluminum to cover what still didn't look good. I put in a new water heater, and the old (but not original) 3-way refrigerator still worked, as did the old (but not original) 3-burner range with oven. I didn't mess with the electrical much, other than installing a new inverter and power center.
After the actual build was completed, I did a lot of cosmetic work, rebullding the bathroom vanity and beds from scratch, and repaneling the closets with African ribbon-striped mahogany veneers. Then I polished the exterior to a near-mirror finish.
That was all within the first year, but what I didn't do was attack the front salon portion of the trailer, which originally would have had basically a built-in futon type thing. I left it all open and the kids slept on air mattresses up there. My plan was to build and install a u-shaped dinette that would convert into a queen-sized bed.
But then, the kids grew up a bit, life got more complicated, and I never finished the reno. I love that trailer and Airstreams in general, but the layout wasn't working for us. Having to make up beds at night, and take them down every morning, is tolerable for a couple days, but doesn't work at all for week+ trips. Not enough counter space, no place to have breakfast or dinner when it's raining outside, etc.
So sadly, I sold it about 2 months ago. Got a very decent price for it, basically made back what I paid for it plus what I put into it. I bought a brand new, modern trailer with a large slide-out and a full warranty.
It doesn't look unique like an Airstream, it doesn't have the vintage-chic factor, but man it's new, it's nice, it's big, and did I mention the full warranty? Gotta say, I love the new trailer.
One day when the kids are grown up and moved out though, I'll probably buy another vintage Airstream, and do it all again. :)
anyway, thanks for asking. It was an incredibly fun trailer to own, to use, and to work on, for the decade I had it.

Very nice. After tent camping several times through the years I’ve kind of got the itch for about a 26-28 footer. Not really wanting a slide as I want to keep the price and weight down so I won’t have to upgrade my tow vehicle which is a 1500 ram with the 3 liter eco diesel. I was actually planning on going camping last weekend but half way through loading all my stuff up in 95* heat I decided not to go.

That's because they're lazy too.
All anyone cares about is total yards.
When you have multiple backs capable of breaking a big gain and want to keep them fresh, this is what happens.
Pretty good company to be in with those guys.

Stumbled upon this bit of preseason hilarity. Including one guy who thought after beating a Terps team "in turmoil" Rutgers would move to 6-1, at this point in the season.
