I vaguely recall that changed that rule recently to protect sliding quarterbacks.  But there is no reason to protect sliding quarterbacks, because there is no reason to slide.

Will they reverse the targeting call, like they did last time Minnesota was in Columbus? When OSU hit Leidner under the chin, made the call, then reversed it. Oh, that's because it was a pick 6.

I just don’t agree with that targeting call.

No it isn't
Amazing that TWO refs threw flags on that call.

Yep, both quite wrong

I just don’t agree with that targeting call.
I don’t think there was any malicious intent to it but that was pretty textbook.  Crown of the head into the face mask.  That’s pretty cut and dried.

I thought it was questionable. It was definitely a personal foul. That’s not where I want to see targeting called as a fan of the game.

Lol. Great screen name.
Thanks!
I'm glad that this board sprung up after the scout (?) board went bye bye.

That's the classic example of it being the right call but the rule being terribly drawn. Either foot-first QB slides need to be outlawed (which is ludicrous) or those slides need to be ineligible for targeting once the player's head arrives lower than the height of their waist when standing.

Absolutely. They have to call that, DB didn’t turn and look for the ball.
I know it’s frustrating from OSU standpoint, since they had the drive stopped

I think it was the correct call per the rule, but I don't like the rule that makes a runner a "defenseless player" because he starts sliding.  It is too hard for defensive players to pull up.

That is definitely overstating it, he definitely reached the ball over, but question was whether he was down before pulling it back.  Also, that was 45 yards from the end zone.
What?  He was pretty clearly down prior to getting the first down.  I don't see how you could say any differently.

Good luck getting an offensive face mask called, Klatt.  That is one of my pet peeves.  Ball carriers routinely jam their hands into the facemask of a defender with nothing called.
