If a story is political by nature, like say it's a film about a real politician at a certain point of their career, or it's about their particular fight in a certain area, then fine, that makes sense. But in general political slants feel hamfisted and forced, and they seriously detract from the story. It's not a matter of which political bent is present. While it's probably true that things that strain against my positions are more annoying than their counterpart, I'm still annoyed by a slant I agree with to the point I don't want to watch it anymore, because it just about always detracts from good story-telling.
The Boys was a little bit of everything. It got stupidly political, it deviated vastly from the source material, and it was overly gross for my tastes. I don't reward things like that by sticking with them. Still, the first season was a pretty great season of television, and I'll always remember that one fondly.
On another topic, I remembered I also just saw Project Hail Mary in the theater, so that makes 5 movies I've seen in the theater since 2020, if I'm counting correctly. Still averaging less than 1 per year.
