Both stadiums there have been updated and are still very functional and quite nice, though. But such is the way, gotta build new.

That city really dropped the ball in trying to build things near the complex to draw people to the vicinity over the past 50 years. Nothing around the Truman Sports complex but giant parking lots, which, has lead to the tailgate culture for football games, but baseball it's an in-and-out of there deal.

Let the Chefs and Royals play in Kauffman while the new Arrowhead is being built.

We have an at least one magistrate judge per county rule, which made for interesting arguments--when my cousin's husband was a legislator, he argued to get rid of that rule. So happened his dad was one of those Magistrates, and would often have to be pulled off the tractor to come deal with something during the work day. 30 years later, cousin's hubby is Chief Judge in Wichita.

Anyway, there has been talk of consolidating some counties in the Western part of the state to save administrative costs. Seems like it would be wise on that end, but it would be the final nail in the coffin of dwindling county-seat towns. Being a native of one, tough call.

Across a couple states I’ve lived in, the consolidation among certain institutions in those kinds of real areas has become a fascination of mine.

Just a really interesting collision of self definitions, practicality, community, best use of resources.

That's not a bad idea, but alas, the decisions have been made--the Chiefs getting a ~65K seat dome on the Kansas side in the big Legends development that has the Kansas Speedway NASCAR track, and the Royals very recently announcing a downtown ballpark next to Crown Center. The drawings for that honestly look pretty cool, it's going to sit down in a bowl and the field viewable from the surrounding area. They claim that there are thousands of parking spaces already, but I'm skeptical it will be nearly as easy to get into the stadium as it has been.

Too bad in many ways, it's very unique having them both together. And KCMO proper, as I alluded to earlier, is led by dumb people in elected positions.

This conversation and pic of the TSC reminds me, probably 10 years ago Jackson Co (KCMO) floated a proposal on the ballot to spend umpteen millions of dollars, to build an at the time a never before contemplated (or even preliminarily designed) "rolling roof" that could be moved from on top of one stadium to the other.

It failed, as have all the ballot initiatives trying to keep the Chiefs on the MO side. Kansas found the bucks.

Kind of embarrassing to admit this, but I was probably in my 20's before I realized that Kansas City was in both Missouri and Kansas. I didn't have a concept of Kansas City, Missouri versus Kansas City, Kansas. Never been to either one.

I got the impression over the years that the KC, Kansas side is more Ghetto, and KC Missouri side was better. No idea if that's true.

@Arrowhead/Kaufman, what was stopping the building of hotels/entertainment/apartments lining the outside of the parking lots? It'd be a giant outdoor shopping circle that exists in plenty of places, with plenty of parking for that on non-game days.
