In early August 2005, the Marine Corps Reserve unit based in Brook Park, Ohio (the 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment) suffered one of the deadliest single-week losses of the Iraq War, when 20 Marines from the battalion were killed in western Iraq.

Note that this unit was a Marine Corps Reserve battalion, not the National Guard.The Tragic Events

August 1, 2005: Five Marines from the battalion's sniper team were killed during an ambush in western Iraq.

August 2–3, 2005: A massive roadside bomb struck an armored amphibious assault vehicle near Haditha, killing 14 Marines from the battalion and a civilian interpreter.

Impact: The August 2 blast marked the single deadliest roadside bombing targeting U.S. forces during the war up to that point, profoundly impacting the local Brook Park and greater Cleveland community

I'd note five lived in the Greater Cincinnati area, and many of the others lived near Columbus where the reserve unit's Lima Company was based.

Brook Park was the base for the battalion.

Mississippi Burning: FBI Locates Remains of Slain Civil Rights Workers (1964)
In the summer of 1964, young civil rights workers James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner travelled to Mississippi to help African Americans register to vote. On June 21, they disappeared. A month and a half later, the FBI found their bodies buried on a nearby farm. The Neshoba County deputy sheriff and 17 others, all Ku Klux Klan members, were indicted for the crime. Seven were convicted in 1967.

Just recently saw the old Gene Hackman/Willem Dafoe movie about that.  Pretty good.
