Guy down street from me who runs garage dropped $65k on an alignment machine few years ago.... freakin GPS and laser... I think he charges $125 for four wheel alignment, which cracks me up- four wheels-.... uhhuh...

I fabricated a device for my super duty, solid front axle truck, which bolted across inner face of wheel... made it level using simple bubble level, and bolted a laser pointer to it... waited until dark and parked in front of the barn.  Turned on lasers and went to measuring....

I took four 16" vinyl tiles, two per front wheel... stacked one atop other with wad of grease between them.. made wheels turn easier using the tie rods.

I did this after installing a four link suspension on the front of the truck.... knowing I wouldn't be able to get to the shop for a proper alignment for a few days.

Got to the shop and cut one of my buddies technicians loose on it while me and my buddy chatted and the guy come got me... he said "I cab try, but I'm not going to get it any better than it is and don't want to charge you for just trying"... I was standing there looking at the monitor and.... it was dead on center of the parameters ... they were amazed when I told them how I did it.  I didn't design this method, it's been around forever- this tale is more akin to a kid not knowing how to use a rotary phone than anything else...

Now with four wheel independent suspension and cv joints/half axles, this is more difficult... with a solid front axle, though, it's a waste of money to get the fancy alignment..  that four link suspension allowed me to dial 6* castor... stock is 4 to 4.5... that big ass truck handled like a sports car!
I think I would rather pay the $125

Tire Size 225/40R18 | Tire Rack

The tire wasn't on sale of course, and it's a moderately high performance tire.  They are $380 at Discount Tire here.  Ouch.

Bridgestone Potenza RE050A | Discount Tire

I'm not a fan of "cheap" tires.  Braking distance is a key metric for me.  At least I know where the spare is now, and the jack.  I need to make sure they repacked everything properly, I think they did.
I bought the maintenance contract with my lease that includes the tires.  Wife ran into a crib with the car and blew a tire.  Towed by Car insurance to dealer. Was told the large tire (Honda Passport) was almost $300. all done for free (well did pay for the contract and the car insurance)  Worth the cost to have it just done and not have to worry about a thing.

Was the baby ok? How about the wall that she must have gone through to get to a crib? :57:

Had my fitting for new golf clubs yesterday.

Ordered a set of the single length clubs with a 4 hybrid and 5 iron through gap wedge.

Excited. The fitting was done with a 5i, and the advantage of playing a 5i at what is my current 9i length meant I was consistently hitting more flush 5 irons than I probably have in my life. Still had the distance, too.

I'm definitely feeling good about the single-length concept.

Congrats on your new job!
that is awesome!

I have been playing with a set of equal length clubs for a couple years now and I could never go back. I have the Cleveland hybrids which means pitching wedge to four iron and they get more hybridy  the higher up you go. ( so the wedge, 9 iron are pretty normal but when you get to the 4 an 5 Iron they are full hybrid.)

Has helped a lot.  I could always hit the green pretty consistently from 150 in but now Iā€™m hitting it pretty consistently from 190 in.

Also I am 6ā€˜3ā€œ tall so I have opted for the 1 inch longer clubs across the board which also helps.  Off the shelf clubs are made for much shorter heights.

i'm the dude who finds great satisfaction doing things myself.... even when it doesn't make sense..

however, today I paid four tire service... on a golf cart.

i use the thing daily- i can get to just about every store i need to survive on a cart, and because of (obviously) where I'm located.  i bought the thing as it is- i would never do to a freakin' golf cart what the previous owner did to this one- he 'lifted' it and put mag wheels and big ol knobby tires on it as if it is a 4wd mudding truck... whatever.. it was cheap, and my kid and her friends love it.

i had a flat but couldn't get the tire off the rim to hot patch it.   i had to take it to a place to do so for me... talk about feeling small...

In his career Maddux faced 20,421 batters. Of those, only 310 ever saw a 3-0 count, and 177 of those were intentional.

Ya after he got to 3-0

Long ago, I'd spend weekends, parts thereof, working on my cars, if the weather was decent, changing oil, plugs, points, condenser, filters, tires, random checks.

Cars back then needed a LOT more work than they do today, and I was poor.

I never had "director" in my title though, I had "manager" for a while, which is odd because I wasn't.  I'm sure I've mentioned how little I did in a day my last few years "working".  There wasn't much for me to do even had I been assiduous about it.  And they replaced me with TWO people.

If you know any storage experts that want to be an FAE, my manager may have a req open for my previous job shortly...

Having someone in Texas (or CO) would be a plus too.

When our company was sold by our parent (a large bank) last year , we all went from traditional bank titles,  Officer, AVP, VP, SVP, EVP to the new company's (privately owned) director type titles.   Very interesting how people view those changes.  You could tell our buyers were having a difficult time trying to title some of us w/o alienating or offending folks.  I tend not to get fussy over such things, more interested in what I'm doing and what's my directive.

I opined where I worked a lot of people wanted a title so much they would take a pay cut to get it.
