Our downstairs HVAC stopped two days ago. It's two years old. I flipped the safety switch and pull the panels and check the drip pan, it all seems fine. The one upstairs stopped working because the drip pan clogged up and got full. I clean out the lines as best I can and start it up again, and nothing, the thermostat was also now completely dead. I check the breakers, no issue there. So, I have to call my service guy who comes the next day and starts checking this and that with his multimeter. The long and short, ha, is that the safety switch had gone bad, a $15 part, it looks like a light switch but handles 220v.
He checks everything and pronounces it fine and gets another switch and installs it and now it's all cool. I think this is the fourth visit I've had not counting the ones where he replaced the entire unit two years ago. He tells me he should have replaced the switch at that time but didn't think about it.
Owning a condo is a lot less work than a house obviously, but stuff still breaks.
