Yeah I really would have liked to have taken English Lit in college.  Unfortunately I was in a time crunch and the scholarship money was set to run out in exactly 4 years, so I had to take every AP credit I could get.

I console myself with the fact that my high school lit classes were quite excellent and I'd already read pretty much the entire college reading list.  I like to think that's part of the reason I'm the amazing, interesting person that I am today. :)

I think by 17 we'd learned to quit getting into stuff the parents would figure out and moved on to getting it from older friends.

My son is going to be in a 3-bed dorm room with two people he didn't know. Thankfully he's talked quite a bit with the one from Redondo Beach (who I think moves in today?) who will be a physics major and so they're probably quite equally nerdy. The other one is a sophomore from Shanghai, and being a returning sophomore who is going to be rooming with two rando freshmen seems like a little bit of a red flag...

So hopefully that works out ok.

My middle daughter started marching band, which is foreign to me because my school did not have a marching band. It has a pretty crazy schedule, and she is definitely working a lot more on it than anything before. But what makes me happy is the first high school football game is tonight, and I finally have an excuse to make the family go.

Both my stepsons were in high school marching band, and their schedule was nuts.  I tip my hat to all the kids who can keep up with that (and their parents too).

My Kid 3 was in marching band, trombone, I don't recall anything about it, I think I never saw them perform.

I made travel plans to go to France in late November,  that makes me fairly happy, and my wife very happy, which makes me exceedingly happy.

The symphony folks here are putting on a program in Paris and Monte Carlo, not the whole symphony, just a group of "patrons".  And our music director is directing in Monte Carlo, so we get to see her.  My wife is good friends with Louis Langree who conducts the Paris Opera Comique, which is not eclusively an opera, and not a comedy thing, so maybe we can see a performance there, or get a tour.
