Watched Marty Supreme last night and like the others, I liked it.  It was a well-crafted piece, the writing and direction were good, the performances were pretty much excellent.  Like others have noted, there wasn't much to like about most of the characters, but that was also the point.

I'd put it at #5 behind all of the others above, but that's no slight, they really are all good movies.  It's refreshing and surprising to me, that all of these Academy-nominated movies were so good this year.

Might watch Train Dreams tonight, will report back, I know you're all anxiously awaiting!

Frog to the bandit, "Take off your hat"

Due to being brought up on charges of heresy by Wildcat, we watched Smokey and the Bandit the other day.  Basically an extended episode of the Dukes of Hazard, I thought.  It was ridiculous, goofy, pointless....and very entertaining.  Lots of good one-liners.  My favorite line, "The Germans have nothing to do with this," made me realize I've heard somebody (FF?) quote that a few times here, and it must be where he got it from. 

It was before my time, so I'm not sure if it was considered any more high art back then than it would be today, but that doesn't matter.  It was a fun way to kill an hour and and a half. 

Before your time?  Weren't you born in '77, or thereabouts?  Every 70's kid loved S&TB.  We all had playskool walkie talkies, everybody wanted to either be the Bandit or the Snowman.  But it was fun being Buford T. Justice as well.

No, I wasn't a thing in 1977.  Even if I were born then, I wouldn't have watched or remembered a movie.  The first movie in the theater I remember is Who Framed Roger Rabbit? from 1988.  I'm sure I could've remembered a movie from a couple years before that if my parents were more prone to seeing movies in the theater, but they weren't.  But Smokey wasn't on anybody's radar (SWIDT?) when I was growing up.  The time had passed and I didn't even know about that movie until years later....probably adulthood.  

When kids pretended to be something while playing, we pretended to be cowboys and Indians (if we felt like fighting), Superman and Lex Luthor (if we felt like actually playing), or--if we felt like throwing a ball around--Tommy Hodson and Wendell Davis.  Hilariously, it didn't even have to be a football.  Whoever threw something was Tommy Hodson and whoever caught it was Wendell Davis.  Then we'd "switch" when the catcher threw it back.
