Solo Phil is amazing, and I don't know of any evidence that he "sold out."

So if Dylan shifts from traditional folk to electric rock, country, and gospel or Bowie & Madonna re-inventing themselves.Hell even the Beatles went from raw '50s early '60s R & R to psychedelic rock and continued to experiment as solo artists Did they sell all out or just get creative/jiggy with it? :017:

He just doesn't like PC's later stuff.

"Selling out" is a goofy term that people apply to artists with no foundation when they shift gears, as all artists inevitably do, but they just don't happen to like it.  Notice the term is never thrown around when artists change but the listener enjoys it.

There have been many musicians over time who have sold out to make more money in pop rock/bubblegum, etc.

Look at the evolution of a lot of metal/hard rock bands. Whitesnake, Scorpions, Def Leppard, etc.

I'd do it too if presented with the opportunity.

Phil is a very wealthy man.

Green Day may have sold out to hit it big. That's fine; I'm not a big punk fan, but I love Green Day's pop punk, so good. Sell out. Make yourself more appealing to me. I'm here for it. As long as I like the change. If not, you're a sell out and you suck.

And yeah, lots of 1980s rock and roll bands found out they could make a bunch more money with power ballads than with bluesy, driving rock. Top of the list is one of my favorites: Aerosmith. Permanent Vacation is tolerable, but when they hit it big with Angel, it was over. Did all of their music after that suck? No, but most of it did. Def Leppard, definitely. I didn't know Whitesnake before they sold out, but I believe it. The late 80's/early 90s hair bands were basically a collective sell out. I get it, they made more money. Good on 'em, just not good for me.

On the flip side, the Clash--like Green Day--got better when they moved away from raw punk.

Maybe I just don't like punk that much.

I thought the acting was phenomenal - not a weak link in the entire cast.
didn't love the movie, just liked it- but this is where I agree 1000%. the most important key roles to cast were always going to be Michael himself (duh) and his father Joe Jackson- don't have a movie without those two- and they didn't just hit it out the park with both castings- they launched it out of that mf.

what is kind of insane to me is that Jaafar Jackson- who is Michael Jackson's actual nephew- wasn't an actor before taking on the lead role. the producer of the film found him almost out of obscurity and wanted him for the part and the kid spent 2 years taking acting classes before getting the role- and in his first acting role ever he absolutely destroys it. hard to explain unless you've seen it- but it's scary and honestly just mind blowing how good he was for a rookie and in a role that difficult.

Sometimes great artists aren't the greatest people, but that doesn't mean their art is not worth appreciating. People are funny like that.
this. like him or hate him- there is no denying the insane god given talent and enormous impact on the pop culture of not only the United States but the entire world that Michael Jackson had since he broke out as a child star with his brothers at the age of 10. guy really was an otherworldly talent that comes around only once. freakish talent- no 10 year old should've been able to sing and dance and perform like that. not to mention that in his 20s with Thriller the guy became inarguably the most successful recording artist in the history of global popular music and the most famous human being on planet earth. i still remember seeing clips about a documentary BBC did in 2010's where they went out to remote scarcely contacted tribes in the amazon and not a single person knew what snow was, who any US President of the last 30 years was, who any famous movie actors or athletes were when shown pictures and clips by the documentary makers- but almost all of them knew who Michael Jackson was. to have that level of fame is downright scary and easy to see how it destroys people. see: Presely, Elvis. my biggest gripe with the movie is they didn't delve into that- how the extreme almost unheard of level of fame and isolation set him down a path of self destruction.

That's where the sequel comes in.

You know damn well it's coming.
