The wife and I have season tickets to the symphony here, we both missed it a lot last year.  That is 6-7 concerts a year and we enjoy them.

We very very rarely go to a movie theater.  We've talked about going to more plays, the main theater is in walking distance.  I would appreciate more classical plays than anything new I suspect.

I never have liked movie musicals, there isn't a single one I like, though I can somewhat tolerate a few.

I am surprised how much I disliked this play.

The Fox Theater seats 4,655 people and it was nearly full of mostly wealthy looking white folks, so I gather they must be the "target audience".  Those around me raved about how great it was as we left.

I get a sense it's socially unacceptable to think as I did.

That really is a magnificent venue.
That's where Lynyrd Skynyrd taped their live '76 album "One More for From The Road" - classic

The musical Hamilton is intentionally jarring.

I saw the video version released on Disney+, and of course I'd heard much of the music beforehand.

I love musical theater and I love many musical movies.  Hamilton wasn't really my thing but I appreciate the craft that went into its production.  I certainly wouldn't pay $400+/ticket for it.

I don't know that I'd call it "intentionally jarring"...

What, are we all supposed to clutch at pearls and hit the fainting couch because it's a POC cast and the music is hip-hop?

Absolutely.  Replacing a bunch of old wigged whities with POC, and representing their thoughts and expression in a modern urban musical style completely disconnected from the staid roots of the Founding Fathers of American Independence?

If you didn't get that, from the artist's creation, then you most certainly missed the point.

Because believe me, every editorial and entertainment opinion piece, COMPLETELY understood the intentions, and commented on them at great length.

I missed the point.  I did not even care that it had a point.

Did Beethoven need a point?

Anyway, if you are like me at all, don't go.

This is revealing, and not in the 'grr longhorn is bad' way.
The music people create is born from within - an expression of their experiences.  So hip-hop is merely the outward expression of growing up in "scourge" communities and conditions.
.
This is why we want to improve those hoods and barrios.  So.....good point, longhorn.  I agree.

I'd rather read a good biography.  I maybe understood a third of the words uttered to the point I quit trying to follow it.  I just tried to sleep.

I'd opine for me it tied the worst entertainment experience I've ever experienced.

My former wife wanted to go see some musical group back in the day in Cincy when we were married and I told her she could go, fine, I was not interested.  She bought tickets anyway, they were pricey at the time (with my credit card).  So, she convinced me to go, I was miserable, I snuck out as far away from the stage as possible and covered my ears.  At least it didn't last three hours.
Why do you put yourself through this?
I don't know why (usually men) get married, only to become a 2nd-class citizen in their own home.
Get your wife a friend.  Then you can live your life, too.

Yeah, you have to jump off a cliff first to see it's a bad idea.

A Rap musical?

Yeah you'd have to pay me to go to that, and it would be upwards of six figures.

and its not a race thing

I hate white hiphopers equally

Ive watched many shows with all black casts and enjoyed them very much

Porgy and Bess is an example

I even went to see an all black cast of Hello Dolly staring Pearl Baily at Jones Hall here in Houston and it was great

but when our founding fathers start doing hip hop youve lost me
