I bet they get it under 8 minutes for sure.

The old CTS-V did 7:42.  The Blackwing has more power and less weight and is more modern.  I wonder what the take rate will be for the manual transmission in that car.  It would be slower in performance in any test except raw handling perhaps.

2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing First Look: A 668-HP Monster (motortrend.com)

T
he wife had the slowest CTS they make, the 2.0T with AWD and it was pretty reasonably fast for a regular car.  Oddly enough, the ride was a bit stiff I thought even though it had the MHD suspension.  I have a soft spot for Caddy obviously with their performance bing, but their naming is goofy.

Their SUVs they would give me for a loaner were horrible.  I realize they are not remotely sporty by intent.

I will revise my guesstimate and say seven minutes and 30 seconds. The alpha platform architecture for that car is world class and competes easily with the Germans and I cannot believe they’re on their fourth generation of the magnetic ride control. I only got to try the first generation on my V card and it was magnificent.

I'd guess 7:35.  With the automatic.

I can recall when breaking 8 was a THING.

seems reasonable that lower center of gravity would be very valuable

The odd thing about this place is that I have no interest in these toys (I inherited a bland sort of pragmatism), but I just read through two pages about them with moderate interest. Weird.

I don't care much about the racing performance of an SUV, I simply like them for their utility.  The U part of SUV.

I prefer towing with an SUV over a pickup for many reasons, and if any manufacturers were still making an SUV that could tow 12,000 pounds, that's what I'd own.

Oh I don’t know I think you can have it all.

an SUV i can load with dogs golf clubs and lots of other gear, Tow 7500 pounds which is two times the weight of my boat and trailer, run a quarter mile in under 12 seconds which is faster than 99% of the cars on the street, and lapped the Nuremberg Ring faster than 99% of the cars on the street.  Just “master”.  Lol.  I paid for it, but get lots if the “U”, World class levels of the “S” and massive tech and functionality like massaging seats with 8 settings, 3D sound system, and 360 camera view of the vehicle including a 3D Birdseye view.

To each their own as they say...

There’s a house around the corner that’s going up for sale. It’s small, and I’m moving soon, much as it saddens me.

Don’t know where I’m living in the new city. But I don’t know you’d like next door, wherever it is. I’d welcome you, for sure. The city does have some fancy lake living in outer burbs.

Retire to the South
Florida

“A Florida senior citizen drove his brand new Corvette convertible out of the dealership.  Taking off down the road, he pushed it to 80 mph, enjoying the wind blowing through what little hair he had left.  "Amazing,” he thought as he flew down I-95, pushing the pedal even more.
Looking in his rear view mirror, he saw a Florida State Trooper, blue lights flashing and siren blaring  He floored it to 100 mph, then 110, then 120.  Suddenly he thought, “What am I doing? I’m too old for this!” and pulled over to await the trooper’s arrival.
Pulling in behind him, the trooper got out of his vehicle and walked up to the Corvette.  He looked at his watch, then said, “Sir, my shift ends in 30 minutes.  Today is Friday.  If you can give me a new reason for speeding – a reason I’ve never before heard – I’ll let you go..”
The old gentleman paused then said, “Three years ago, my wife ran off with a Florida State Trooper.  I thought you were bringing her back.”
“Have a good day, Sir,” replied the trooper.

Georgia
The owner of a golf course in Georgia was confused about paying an invoice, so he decided to ask his secretary for some mathematical help.
He called her into his office and said, “Y’all graduated from the University of Georgia and I need some help. If I wuz to give yew $20,000, minus 14%, how much would you take off?”
The secretary thought a moment, and then replied, “Everthang but my earrings”

Louisiana
A senior citizen in Louisiana was overheard saying, “When the end of the world comes, I hope to be in Louisiana .”
When asked why, he replied, “I’d rather be in Louisiana ‘cause everythang happens in Louisiana 20 years later than in the rest of the world.”

Mississippi
The young man from Mississippi came running into the store and said to his buddy, “Bubba, somebody just stole your pickup truck from the parking lot!”
Bubba replied, “Did y’all see who it was?”
The young man answered, “I couldn’t tell, but I got the license number.”

North Carolina
A man in North Carolina had a flat tire, pulled off on the side of the road, picked a bunch of flowers in the field and proceeded to put a bouquet of flowers in front of the car and one behind it.  Then he got back in the car to wait.
A passerby studied the scene as he drove by, and was so curious he turned around and went back.  He asked the fellow what the problem was.
The man replied, “I got a flat tahr.”
The passerby asked, “But what’s with the flowers?”
The man responded, “When you break down they tell you to put flares in the front and flares in the back. I never did understand it neither.”

Tennessee
A Tennessee State trooper pulled over a pickup on I-65. The trooper asked, “Got any ID?”
The driver replied, “Bout whut?”

Texas
The Sheriff pulled up next to the guy unloading garbage out of his pick-up into the ditch  The Sheriff asked, “Why are you dumping garbage in the ditch?  Don’t you see that sign right over your head.”
“Yep,” he replied. “That’s why I’m dumpin’ it here, ‘cause it says: ‘Fine For Dumping Garbage.’”

I used to get asked what kind of car someone should buy.  Well, there is no answer without a lot of questions being answered.  If you have $100 K to spend and want an SUV, you definitely can get something superb, either track capable or imminently comfortable, or you could get an EV soonish.

If you want to spend $20 K on a new car, your options obviously get limited.  But you can still get something decent even there.  Cars today are really good, nearly all of them.

Those Dodges with the very loud exhausts are popular around here, folks like showing them off, either they took out the mufflers or they can bypass them.  I think they are pretty crappy vehicles aside from straight lines.  And making noises.

Practicably speaking, I have always thought a FWD minivan was an exceptionally practical conveyance, if you don't need to tow and don't car much about driving excitement.  I owned two for many years while I had kids.  The sliding door was great.

I see a lot of Porsches around here also, 911s and Boxster types.  But again, where can you drive such a car at 8/10ths?  They are mostly status symbols, I'd guess many of the drivers never push them, just as many SUV owners never go on a dirt road.

My step son drove a GT3 on the Porsche experience track here near the airport, he said it was great fun, I'll probably do that someday soonish, probably with the Cayman.
