Nurburgring times are interesting, but I'd opine a sports sedan would beat an SUV at equal cost, same make and power etc.  I agree the modern high end SUVs are very good, but I think the modern high end sports sedans drive better.

I've driven the BMW X5 with  the twin turbo V8 back to back with an M5 (BMW had a day where you could drive anything they had if you listened to a ten minute spiel).  The M5 to me felt a lot more controlled on the corners.  That was in 2015-6.

I'd guess the Caddy Blackwing would set a good 'ring time.  That course favors that sort of design, high power and RWD.

Cadillac CTS-V Breaks Nurburgring Record! (roadandtrack.com)

That last report is ancient relatively, but the Vs usually do well on the Ring.

3 types of hotdogs for me (all Nathan's)
quickest:  just yellow mustard
normal:  mustard and diced onions
fancy:  bacon, shredded cheese, bbq sauce

Vienna Beef hot dogs for me. Nathan's sucks, in my opinion.

Mustard, relish, onion, sport peppers. From here:

this awd SUV would MURDER a CT5 on a road course, let alone in a straight line.  Go check out Nurburgring times. The RSQ8 broke the record for Cross Over SUVs.

I didn't post anything about an Audi.  The previous Cadillac CTS-V matched that time on the ring, 7:42.  I'd guess the new version (CT5-V Blackwing) with more power and less weight will do better than that.  But that is impressive for an SUV, no doubt.  I've driven the V on COTA in Austin and it's a handful.  For an SUV to match is is surprising, but I doubt owners of either type drive the car at 10/10th often, if ever.  This is one reason I have not delved into really high performance vehicles other than for a day.  Is it better to have good fuel economy and comfort or high performance on paper than you never see except an occasional burst on an on ramp ...

My son improved his 9 hole score from his first round 64 to shoot a 47 today. And yet still probably had 5 strokes he could easily shave off with improved putting.

I grew up with a grimy place for links that was open until 4 am. Had a good chicken apple sausage and a bunch of other stuff. Can remember the condiments off hand, but ketchup is bad and whole grain mustard that clears your sinuses is the right way to be.

Speaking of Green Hell lap times, I was poking about the interwebz and found this:

The 2020 C8 Corvette Lapped Nurburgring in 7:29.9 - The News Wheel

That's pretty decent for the "base engine" (Z51).  The amusing thing is a Camaro is quite a bit faster.  That car is barely away from being a race car.

The Corvette’s lap time of 7:29.9 puts it within inches of the industry’s high-end supercars, including the McLaren MP4-12C and the Mercedes-Benz SLS Black Series. It’s also following close behind the Camaro ZL1’s record of 7:29.6. The Camaro ZL1 1LE model picked up the pace even more — it clocked in at 7:16.04.

VW Golf GTI Clubsport S beats its own Nürburgring record (motor1.com)

That isn't a US GTI of course, but it got under 8 minutes with a 7:47.

I owned that 09 CTS-V. I also got to drive it on the Monticello Road Course. That car was amazing.
it proves my point though.  I suggested that some of these new, highly engineered super suv vehicles are not only faster then many modern sedans, but they can be tossed around on a BRUTAL road course or canyon road.  I’m telling you, I took it out early this morning on some curvy roads and it inspires more confidence in the curves than my CTSV, or my BMW 550 M, or any other sedan I’ve ever owned.

The ring numbers prove it.  The SUV I just purchased ran a better ring time than that V!  Stop and think about that.  It beat the last corvette Z06 that tried the ring. It beat the Porche 911 GTS. Just look at the Ring lap times I posted, and the list of expensive sedans that it beat.

so you can opine if you wish, but your off on what is real in the car world.  Did you even look at what they engineered into that Audi to make its suspension System world class?

So- knowing this Audi ran 7:42:03- don’t you agree it handles better than an extremely high % of sedans in the stree?

I am unfamiliar with the Audi entirely.  I based my conclusions on the experience I described, they could be outdated, but top weight seems to me like an inherent physics problem.  If you put the same tech the Audi SUV has in an Audi SEDAN, which would be faster?  In the case of the BMWs, I favored the sedan, by a lot.

And I suspect the CT5 Blackwing will do pretty well on the 'Ring.

SPORTS sedans of equal cost?  I don't agree.

It would make the top ten list tied at number 6, which is amazing.

That’s the point you keep missing.  The technology they are using is turning the excess weight from a disadvantage to a distinct advantage for road holding. There is a 48 volt motor which is moving the anti roll braces under the vehicle to balance it and counter lean.  That’s just one example- BMW does not have that. Then there is the rest limited slip integrated with air suspension and rear steering. When I put my car in dynamic mode/ it lowers significantly.
There is more- how do you think it ran that time and is now the fastes suv to ever run the ring?

I get your point just fine.  It's an amazing time and technology.  I don't think the top weight can be an advantage though, it's physics, even with complex adjustments.

But a sedan would be faster with the same type of technology.  I will say MOST SUVs don't handle as well as comparable sedans, there can always be an exception.

What do you think the Blackwing's time would be?

Well that is true in most cases.

I have 2 cars in my garage
The RS5 which I have substantial enhanced the suspension and power.
And the SQ8.  The RS5 is faster.  But it is amazing in the corners. My SQ8 is faster in a curvy road. I proved this morning. Believe me- it still shocked me

The RS5 did very well on the ring.  8:10.
They are pretty close in cost.
