The "fun" of following modern politics for most is that it's a sort of silly infotainment. 

It's mostly just for the joy of yelling about things you can't control at others who root for whoever is doing that (or grousing with like-minded folks). And it's really crystalized there, with sort of unending culture war burffle. Much easier to yell and feel righteous than talk like grownups about real interactions between folks and their government.

These two prior posts in succession have hit on it, exactly.

People now root for their political "team" in the same way we've traditionally rooted for sports teams.  There's no place for discourse, it's just a mindless affiliation to some political color.

Unfortunately there is a great deal of truth to this.

it would be nice if there was discourse without mention of an individual person or specific political party.

But that is no longer possible- because if you want to express your opinion about an issue( pick one- doesn’t matter was it is), you are then labeled as being a member of that team. Even if your not- and your opinion on various issues aligns with both “ teams” depending on the issue- or in many cases- nether team.

we all have a view of whats wrong and whats right

I cant help it if more folks of a particular color happen to agree with me

Im sorry if I hurt feels but what we have in the WH right now is a potted plant
