SEC 2022 Prognostications
« on: January 14, 2022, 08:05:16 AM »
UGA will be losing a lot on both sides.  Bama will as well but is routine for them.  I'm not sure about A&M.  Florida and Tenn will be interesting, Ole Miss as well, add LSU to the mix.

A&M will be breaking in a new QB again. I know we lost a lot on defense. The OL was young this year, hopefully they are an experienced group in ‘22.

I’d think we’d have a good season at 9 wins. I don’t see competing for the west unless Bama moves East.

OU and UT will be in conference by then as well.

Who doesn't love a coaching change-transition year!?!  Hopefully we'll beat the teams we're favored against and be competitive underdogs!  You know, super high expectations!

It is hard to know how a new coach will fare, but usually it's around 8-5ish with a good program.

I think Alabama wins the West and UGA wins the East again.  UGA lost a ton on defense so I expect Alabama to be favored but our girl Hope springs eternal.

Florida was like 50th in recruiting when Mullen left.  Up to 26th now, and in the top 20 in average star rating.

Still some big fish out there, too.

But we're still like 19th in the SEC recruiting rankings, so that's fun.

I know Mullen took heat over recruiting obviously, but it's odd to me he would have been weak on that point, or unexpected anyway.  He's not Spurrier.

Mullen is a real mystery to me, preseason I would have put him as the second best coach in the conference.

I think it's going to be at least '23, probably more like '24 before LSU starts shaping up under Kelly.  Assuming they eventually do.  They're doing as good as we could've hoped for at filling a decimated roster with portal transfers and signees.  But the best talent will still be young and green, and transfers.....I figure they're transfers for a reason.  With good coaching this could be "a tough team you shouldn't treat like a bye week" but it's gonna be a minute before they're realistically a contender for anything.

Arkansas is the somewhat overlooked program of interest to me.  They are building a hard nosed team and culture, they are going to upend someone soon I think.

We get a lot of notice about MSU/OM/A&M it seems to me more than Arky, who quietly is doing pretty well.  What are the odds they win the West in five years?  Dunno.

I saw some record predictions somewhere and there were a LOT of 7-5 and 8-5 teams (predicted).  Is the conference falling into mediocrity aside from the top two?

Eh, it's relative.  Take a 7-5 SEC team to the ACC in some sort of exchange, and drag, say, UNC here....

Sure, but 7-5 in the SEC isn't going to impress many, including the fans.  A team could win every OOC game, 3 of which likely are pastries, and go 3-5 in conference.

I more used to seeing the third best record being something like 10-3.
