Yeah I don't see it like that.
Texas has had the pieces in place many many seasons I've watched, and not put it all together. Tough competition, long season, wrong chemistry, bad luck-- whatever it's been, it's resulted in not quite getting there, every time, except the one time.
2008 Texas was the best team in the country that year by a decent margin IMO, but a terrible first quarter and some terrible officiating allowed Tech to squeak out a win on the high plains. Possibly the most costly loss in Longhorn history, because of all the what-ifs.
An inferior Texas team in 2009 made it all the way to the NC game but then once again the evil and capricious football gods decided to injure Colt early in the first and smite the Horns, for whatever reasons they had.
So I see this season as one of opportunity, but like all other seasons one of danger and risk and a very strong likelihood of something undesirable or unfortunate of even disastrous happening-- because that's the way it just about always goes.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not crying over our sad lot, because in reality Texas is fortunate and blessed among the ranks of college football programs.
And I'm not doomsaying for this specific season. There's enough talent on the Forty Acres to win the national championship.
I'm just expressing my opinion that, on balance this season has as much promise of good fortune as the 4th quarter last night showed, but also as much potential for disasater and heartbreak as the first three quarters demonstrated.
