unless you're following a team to Omaha for the CWS

Only fanatics do that.

And only idiots go when their team is not even there.

Been too lazy to post and wife takes all of the pictures, except the blurry one above.  But since deadwood, we have seen devil's tower, Stopped in Livingston, Mt.  Tried to find a country bar for my wife, but couldn't find one.  Next day did the grand loop in Yellowstone, Grand canyon of yellowstone, Upper falls, Yellowstone lake, old faithful, fairy falls and onto Rexburg, ID.  Today was a quick drive to Burns, OR on our way to Roseburg, OR where my son, his wife and grandson live tomorrow.

Yellowstone is as beautiful as ever.

Well I am home a few days early. Driving thru Umpqua National Forest on 138 to my son's house in Roseburg and then driving from there on the 199 to the 101 for the Redwood forest convinced us we were done with the drive.  2 lane roads through the mountains with many winding curves and construction shutting things done to one lane at about what seemed every 5 miles was not just frustrating but very tiring for this old man. We were suppose to meet my son and his family one day at the beach but they were about 30 minutes behind us on the 199 and a semi overturned behind us on the 199 but before they got there shut down the 199 for about 5 hours, so they turned around and went back home. They sat for an hour hoping to get through but finally a worker them it would be another 4 or 5 hours.

So we skipped Yosemite and around that area, but good to be home after being on the road.

Overall it was a great trip seeing a whole bunch of the country. Seen all my kids and grandkids (except the ones in Arizona) at various times and so many of our friends.  Finding a place on the beach in Maine to call our own.  Time well spent

Sounds awesome, although I'm sorry that you missed out on the California coastal redwoods. My earliest family vacation memories are of staying in a cabin on the Smith River (the only undammed river in the west, allegedly) near Crescent City. We went there many summers in a row, until I was about 10, I think, and I went back a couple of times in my early 20s. It's a beautiful place (and home of the Forest Moon of Endor). But the roads have always been tricky. Back then it was negotiating with massive lumber trucks--and it might still be.

Side note: in NorCal, when we hear people refer to freeways with a "the" in front of it, we think those are LA/SoCal people, as in "the 5," "the 110," or, as above, "the 101." Here, I take 101 to 92, then south on 1 (to get to the coast that Fearless and his daughters visited). In LA, they would take "the 101 to the 92, then south on the 1." I'm curious if that's more common nationwide than I realized (referring to the freeway with a "the" in front of it)?

I've only heard it down here. Not ever when I've lived in Chicago, Indiana, Atlanta, or the Bay.

I say it in socal, but I turn that off when I fly up your way (as I'm doing today actually).
