I listed my rather restrictive criteria, which admittedly is too narrow, whatever. I don't consider a Porsche Macan to be sporty even though it can put down some solid numbers. I think a broader more modern criteria list for being "sporty" would be:

Two seater, low slung, a bit cramped
Good performance, e.g., 0-60 under 5 seconds, good handling, skidpad over 0.90 G.

Nice to have convertible option and manual option.

The US prototype for a sporty car is the Corvette, so anything that kinda looks like that is "sporty". I consider the Mustang to be quite sporty, even though it was a tiny back seat. The Camaro apparently is "coming back" but as a four door, which, well, it shouldn't.

They are popular here, and I've driven them: they are sporty, particularly as SUVs go. Lots of torque, handle well. But they are SUVs, so that puts a damper on sportiness.

We thought seriously about buying one, but the pending battery death, rendering the car little more than scrap metal salvage, dissuaded us.

And I agree with the sentiment that they are just not the same as a real Mustang.

From what I can tell, worry about battery life in an EV is largely unfounded. It CAN happen too early, but it seems to be rare, and they have a 100,000 mile warranty on them.

I'll be interested to see in the coming years what the average MBK is for those batteries (Mileage Before *Kaput*). In general, I expect to get much more than 100k miles on my vehicles. Obviously, warranty != usable life, but if you have a problem with no warranty......no bueno.

We tend to keep our cars a long time. At least that's our goal. I would be really frustrated to have, for instance, a 12-year old car that has no resale value because the battery now only keeps about 50 miles per charge.

Nearly as I can tell, a 12 year old EV battery should have ~70-80% of its original charge.

My main issue is the cost of charging away from home or in an apt/condo.

Hyundai's design / visual identity has been a giant mess for years. Regarding visual identity--they had none. There was no consistent design arc across anything they produced.

So whether you like it or not, at least they're trying to have a coherent design across the lineup.
