The worst I've been on were in Egypt, and that was a four lane "highway".

It's like drivers, every state and city will claim they have the worst.

I found the roads up north to be "climate challenged", Ohio wasn't great for that reason.  The roads here are mostly OK outside Atlanta.  I think NC has a good road network, a lot of limited access roads.

Damn Neil DeGrasse-Tyson, I have never forgiven him for that.  

It also screwed up my elementary school mnemonic device.  Now it's just "My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Nine."

When I was a young engineer, we did this manually by walking the pavement. For Tollways, we did every 528 feet.

The American Public Works Association had a program called MicroPaver, which we used to analyze the data. From there, I'd take the data into Minitab, and run the statistics.

I glimpsed at some thing Atlanta was doing preworld cup of that ilk, not exactly, a few streets around us did get paved.  The MAIN DRAG (Peachtree) got paved, it was in bad shape.  The roads here don't wear out really, they get dug up for fiber and whatever and the repairs are awful.

If we're doing concrete pavement repair, the inspectors still walk the pavement and drag a chain to find the bad joints. Very low tech, but it's effective.
