Taxing bodies is a better reflection on how governments operate. It's the number of bodies that show up on your property tax statement that really matter. Number of counties is insignificant.

I get a lot of taxing bodies here.  It’s rather taxing.

And sales tax is 8.9%.  We do have state income tax of course.

In Cincinnati, I paid 2.2% city income tax, on all income,  that was annoying.   NC had a tax on personal property.

Illinois has the most taxing bodies in the country.

My property tax bill used to say "see other side".

I have school district, city, and county, on my property tax bill.

There's no state or municipal income tax.

State + municipal sales tax is 8.5% in Austin.

county boundaries is a far more interesting topic than taxation minutia.

Not to me, although I would prefer there be less counties.

Probably not, Fulton county is oddly elongated, over 70 miles in length.

Per a few quick googles.

The goal was that someone could ride/mule to and from the county seat in one day. Fulton is weird because in the depression, it absorbed several broke counties.

The west must've had some mighty fast mules.

I understand that's why Kansas has 105 counties.  Most are 24 x 30 miles.

We have an at least one magistrate judge per county rule, which made for interesting arguments--when my cousin's husband was a legislator, he argued to get rid of that rule.  So happened his dad was one of those Magistrates, and would often have to be pulled off the tractor to come deal with something during the work day.  30 years later, cousin's hubby is Chief Judge in Wichita.

Anyway, there has been talk of consolidating some counties in the Western part of the state to save administrative costs.  Seems like it would be wise on that end, but it would be the final nail in the coffin of dwindling county-seat towns.  Being a native of one, tough call.

My baseball team lost 23-3.  I suspect were ranked last.
