I watched the first episode because I heard John C. McGinley (Scrubs' Dr. Perry Cox) talk about it in an interview and I thought, well, I can't miss Michael Scott and Dr. Cox together on screen.  I remember vaguely enjoying it, but I didn't continue with it, and now I've cut HBO off.  Not continuing with it was less about the show itself and more about my disinterest in that modern style of comedy now.  I like the overt silliness of shows like Arrested Development, Parks and Rec, Community, etc., as opposed to the more realistic, toned-down styles of shows like Rooster or Shrinking. 

As a MKE native,  that duo was indeed a 'thing' but I was also a young adult during their prime and Neil was definitely not cool so not really in my orbit of interest.  i basically lumped them in with other 'local' acts that I didn't pay any attention towards.  I was more of a Violent Femmes, BoDeans, Citizen King, The Gufs, local band supporter during those times. 

that said, I  really enjoyed the movie.

There are a lot of different accents across Texas too, it's a pretty big place.  East Texans sound quite different than West Texans, to me.  But there's still a general Texan-ness to it so I could see why outsiders don't get it.

The Deep South accent on the other hand, really sounds nothing at all like Texan. 

It doesn't sound like English.
