Haven't seen it, but I expect it's a lot more interesting/glamorous than being an actual landman.  Not much excitement in that profession.

In There Will Be Blood Daniel Day Lewis' landman killed people.  Never saw any real violence either (thankfully).
Well, sure.  That comes with the territory.

Believe it or not... in real life, bored computer programming teenagers don't actually hack into the government computer responsible for launching all the nukes and almost accidentally set off a nuclear WWIII.  Gaming programmers aren't actually sucked inside computers and forced to compete with programs on a digital field of battle.  And sadly, coders also don't ever actually try to siphon off the fractions of pennies from large-scale bank transactions resulting in either a run-in with an evil version of Superman, or a crazy dude with a red stapler, depending on which decade you're in.

Don't ruin my illusion!  If I want to believe that The Dude gets sucked into a mainframe to play games with Tron, then that's a thing that happens.

I mean, if ANYONE were actually going to get sucked into a computer, it would probably be the Dude.

But not mentioned is --- hooking up a Barbie doll to your computer, with a bra on your noggin, and creating a hot babe.

Kelly LeBrock.  Mmm.

Got sucked into an 80's too-raunchy for theaters utube vid this morning.  One of the mentions was Hot Dog--The Movie.

Sure glad my otherwise frugal parents sprung for HBO/Showtime.  My Tutor was another fave.

Chachi was in some dumb movie where he had the powers of telekinesis, and disrobed most of the babe characters.

Rob Lowe having a fling with Jaqueline Bissett, who played his roommate's mom, was another.

I was in love with Caren Kaye from My Tutor.  Came in clear as day in my basement on the 27 inch console.

Over the past two weekends we rewatched the whole Dark Knight trilogy (Christian Bale, Christopher Nolan dir., etc.)  I think this was perhaps just the second time I saw The Dark Knight Rises, maybe having only seen it once in the theater.  I kind of remember this being my initial reaction, but now, all these years later, it's even more clear that this trilogy finale had glaring problems.  It's still a fun watch and overall a well-done movie.  The actors all do a pretty good job with what they've got to work with.  However, Bane's whole nefarious plan made zero sense, and was dumb AF, and that kind of drags the whole thing down.  Especially when watching it right on the heels of the first two, when the comparison is fresh.  Bane's motivation also seemed to be mostly just a rehashed version of what the Joker set out to do in the second film, prove that people really suck and all that.  Only the Joker did it better, and the concept wasn't tired and played out by that point.  I appreciate that Bane purported to be some type of cleansing agent, ridding the world of corruption, while masquerading as a Marxist asshole, while the Joker, in contrast, was an anarchist with nihilist tendencies.  But the point they tried to make while setting about their business was the same, and......meh.  Already seen it, and the Joker did it better.

I've heard that Christopher Nolan had lost interest in the franchise at that point and didn't really want to make that film, but was contractually obligated to.  If true.....it kinda shows.  I've also read that a big reason for not killing the Joker in the second movie was because the plan was to bring him back to be a part of the third movie, though that wasn't possible since Heath Ledger died prior to the second movie's release.  If so, maybe some of the scripting for the third movie was already done and they wound up using elements of it in making the third movie.  That would explain why some of the same stuff was getting rehashed, albeit in a clunkier manner....because this was originally the Joker's next move.

All that said, it's still not a bad film, and I'd take it over much of what gets produced today.

Conversely, the first movie, Batman Begins, is a better movie than I remember giving it credit for.  Not as good as the second movie, which was the clear high-point for me.  But still a very solid effort that stands very well on its own.
I'm with you, probably the only good part about the 3rd Nolan Batman was the ending. Overall it just wasn't that good and it falls way short of the first two- which are both fantastic movies. The ending in the 3rd one was very well done- and that's basically it.

saw the Michael movie. Coleman Domingo as Joe Jackson was a mean nasty menacing son of a bitch- that guy really is a terrific actor. the actor that plays 10 year old Jackson 5 Michael was really good. But Michael Jackson's nephew Jaafar who plays the grown up Michael absolutely steals the show and nails the part- Daniel Day Lewis level performance imo in that he completely becomes the character and you think you're watching Michael Jackson and forget that is an actor portraying him up on the screen like in the movie Lincoln with DDL and you think oh shit that's Abraham Lincoln up there.

movie was enjoyable mainly due to the standout performances by Coleman Domingo and Jaafar Jackson, but probably not something I'd go see again- and don't want to get into too much detail or give away any spoilers but thought it could've been a lot better- had some raw ingredients which could've made for a great movie- especially the two lead actors- but it's a little uneven and they leave a lot out and they leave it off for what appears to be a sequel or possibly even two sequels in the making- so feels like half a movie. oh and also thought there was no reason for Miles Teller to even be in the movie as the lawyer who used to work for Michael Jackson in the 80s and happens to run the Jackson Estate today- dude basically put himself into the movie for no reason....talk about an ego.

I go to movies... like almost never.

I'm taking my wife to a matinee today, to see Michael. *

I'll report back.

* This is what I get for buying her an AMC gift card as part of my 29th anniversary gift to her.

I didn't think she'd ask me to go with her. But, how could I say no?

Sigh. *
