OT - Pet Peeves Thread

Because the "stop" makes sense when it's party vs party.  


I think as a certain % of this place finds it harder and harder to defend a certain someone, the quieter any and all governmental talk has to be.  
Political talk is simpler and more civil when you don't feel compelled to defend the indefensible.  


And saying an obvious poor decision was poor is not political.

If you think I'm trying to keep this place apolitical because I would be forced to defend a specific person, perhaps you can look back to what I said about said person before the election. It's not about any specific party or politician. 

It's that we, a bunch of reasonable and mature folks who talk about a wide range of topics, proved that when politics comes in, civility goes out. It coarsened the dialogue here, and it tended to spread like wildfire and infect everything else. We even *used* to allow policy-based discussion, but what we learned is that this was just the proverbial camel's nose in the tent
camel's nose in the tent... We eventually loosened and loosened and loosened, and this became a politics board rather than a CFB (or cooking!) board. 

So, no. Stop. If you want to discuss politics, head down to Area 51. They'll GLADLY oblige you.

Overplayed songs on the radio...

I get it. They assume people are listening during drive-time which is often a 15-45 minute block, and then shutting it off. And they have to play the popular hits. So they're probably playing some songs nearly once per hour.

But when I was in Denver, it seemed like we had numerous 20-25 minute drives, and the same 3 songs were on every damn time. 

The worst? The new Sublime song, Ensenada. Except it's not really new. They've been playing this song for months. And it kinda, well, sucks. It's a pretty stupid song that was maybe a little novel and humorous when it first hit, but it's not very good on its merits. And it just won't go away.

I don't understand why electric razors can't give me a good shave on my neck.  They do great on my cheeks, chin, and mustache area.  Under my jaw and on my neck is where they struggle.  I can go over and over a spot, and it still leaves whiskers.  

I thought it might be a quality thing, maybe the standard shaver you can get at Walmart is inferior, so I bought one on Amazon that had stellar reviews and was something like $230.  Same result, other than it does do a bit better job up on the cheeks and such.  

I look at reviews and I watch demo videos of guys reviewing them and doing live shaves to see how they do, and then give their thoughts.  They don't seem to have this problem, even with the cheaper ones.  

WTF is wrong with my lower chin and neck that electric razors leave me patchy?  Half the time I have to go over it with a razor blade and sometimes I just don't bother and have to shave the old fashioned way.  Which I hate.

But since the beard has been in place for about 5 years, I use a blade to trim around it about twice a week.  Use the same blade for a couple of months to get the neck and cheeks.  Did buy a rechargeable trimmer to keep the rest in shape every couple of weeks.  Pretty low maintenance.

I use Harry's and the neck is always the hardest to shave. It's weird and annoying.

I was happy with a beard and didn't intend to shave it, but then half the thing turned gray.  I didn't mind the look of gray hair in the beard at all, I couldn't have cared less, but in my case, all the gray hairs turned wiry and curly and could no longer be made to look nice with a beard trimmer.  No matter what I tried, it just looked unkempt.  By the time point I could make it look good, it was trimmed so close that it was hardly a beard anymore.  So I shaved it.  

I see plenty of other dudes with gray in their beard, or full gray beards and they look all nice and tidy.  That annoys me too.
