While I hope that is right, I do have a nagging concern that if we're all still talking about the Michigan game, how much is the team still thinking about it, when they need to prepare for Northwestern?

Hopefully not much.

PS I'm sure I'm not the only one who misses Marcel's input on this game.

Interesting about Leo Chenal, who was not on the report Monday.

On to the next one.

The Cats didn't look good against MSU, and here comes another top defense this weekend.

Still, Fitz always has his guys pumped for UW. I expect a close game here, despite the line of 21 points the wise guys laid out there.
So yeah, NU puts up the fight I expected. Its offense outscored UW's 15-10. Gotta clean that up.

Why Fitz went for 2 points twice is beyond me. That could have changed the game had he taken the points.

Also, in what is good news for NU, it appears they found a QB. Hunter Johnson is NOT the answer in Evanston.

The 1st one was a big head scratcher, the 2nd was to make up for screwing the pooch on the 1st.
But yah, it should have been a 7 point game with 4 minutes left.

This may expose Wisconsin to a weakness; i.e.  opponents with stellar defenses.

I've read there's some statistical backing for going for 2 early. Basically, you gotta do it at least once. So if you do it early, you know if you have to play more desperate.

Basically, if you go early, you don't grind out a long late drive only to need the 2 and miss right and the end. You'd rather be down 9, know you need two drives and play accordingly. That's the theory anyway.

Any stellar defense if going to stop a good offense. NU's game plan was perfect, as it normally is against UW.

A balanced offense is usually toughest to slow down.  Mobile QBs are often very tough on even a good defense.  This is one reason Ohio State and Oklahoma perhaps merit some serious consideration for teams able to overcome good Ds.

Initially I thought we were talking about being down 15 for some reason. Yeah, that first one isn't mathematically sound, though to be fair, it would've taken a flurry of miracles to be within seven at all.

I agree with that theory.
If the prime object is to win, as opposed to being able to say that you only lost by 2 because you failed on the conversion, then the theory makes perfect sense.
