Mizzou is a better fit in either division of the Big Ten than in the SEC East.

Yup you could have put Mizzou in the West and Purdue in the East, replacing Rutgers

Or you could put Mizzou, ILL and Purdue in the (South) East  and put MSU and Mich in the  (North) West.  Again Rutgers is out.

So what is/was wrong with Mizzou that made the Big Ten be not interested?  Their academics are better than Nebraska's (and OU's as well).  Missouri has a bigger population than Nebraska.

Was it just Huskers are better than Tiggers?

IIRC Mizzou forgot the first rule of campaigning to be elected pope: Never do it publicly.

I still think the B1G made the right call with Nebraska (I know some other Iowa fans may disagree).  One, they aren't going to be down forever.  The Huskers will probably never return to their level of dominance in the 90s, but there's still no reason they can't compete with Wisconsin, Iowa and Northwestern for the West crown on a yearly basis.  Two, they have a ton of fans (I'm willing to bet that fans that live in the state of Nebraska are a distinct minority.  I can't name too many other fanbases that have a sizable presence in literally every part of the country, and even abroad)

Did the B1G make the right call rejecting Mizzou?

Rutgers was probably the right choice over Missouri as it adds NYC TV sets to Big Ten football Saturdays. Not that NYC (or New Jersians) care about college football but advertisers do care about that market.
If we exclude #s of TV sets, Iowa State would have been better than Rutgers. They have a bigger fan base for football. Generally Iowa State has had good men's (and women's) basketball the past 3-decades.

That's just it I'm not sure more TV sets are tuned into Rutgers football in the N.East than Mizzou in St.Louis/KC

ratings are just part of it.

when BIG demands to be on the basic lineup, that's 50 cents per subscription
