Cincinnati is solidly a baseball town, in my view.  CFB is very secondary for most denizens.  The NFL is probably second.

NFL is tops here, followed by CFB. All the bars have BRN, ESecPN/SEC, ACCN, and the nationals of course. Hockey is probably #3 given all the recent success here.

I used to really love baseball, (long time Cub fan).

As I became a family man, the time waned, and the schedule got busier, and busier.  A few cuts had to be made.  First it was the NBA, then MLB, and anymore -- the NFL gets a mere passing glance, until the playoffs start, and then I half ass pay attention.

One thing I was never giving up was CFB, come hell or high water.

Lo and behold, I didn't leave CFB, but it is damn sure leaving me.  I wish someone would damn the tide, before it's too late.

I watch baseball still on TV.  I recently attended a game here because it was "free" (not really).  My wife said she enjoyed it, and asked me what I thought, and I told her there was too much external noise for me, there wasn't more than a few seconds where music wasn't playing.  A hot dog was nearly $10 (I didn't buy one).

There was a good crowd on hand, the weather was nice, we had so so seats, I really didn't enjoy the experience much at all.  It's not geared for geezers and antiquarians like me.

I've damned the Tide many times, along with Tennessee and Auburn fans as well.  They keep beating us anyway, tho :)

It would be ironic if Saban was the one to fix some of this.

I think I really left baseball after college. I followed it some in college but after that, I wasn’t in bars after work all the time owing to some swing shift stuff.

I follow the NBA pretty closely, but that is becoming more about podcasts and a little less about using games as wallpaper because my team is starting to fall off. UW basketball still gets too much of my attention, and I at least keep an eye on CBB overall, aided by podcasts and efficient statistical models.

NFL has stepped back a bit, just because I lean college. And, if anything, the modern era of college has allowed me to focus on the parts that actually bring me joy.

I think Saban could have some ideas about how to fix the game itself, which if done properly, would cascade benefits to players versus what happens if it's not fixed.

It could become like college baseball is today, a place for HS players who are very very good but not elite enough to go directly into the pros, or who value a "free" education as being worth more than a pro contract.

My pitching coach was a first rounder and he told me had he been a lower pick, he would have gone to college.  Maybe a round 2 Contract today is pretty decent.

Not many 18 year olds are ready for the NFL either of course.

NFL doesn’t want them, and there isn’t much push for a kid that young to play.

https://www.reuters.com/sustainability/climate-energy/ghost-machine-rogue-communication-devices-found-chinese-inverters-2025-05-14/

Quote
U.S. energy officials are reassessing the risk posed by Chinese-made devices that play a critical role in renewable energy infrastructure after unexplained communication equipment was found inside some of them, two people familiar with the matter said.

Power inverters, which are predominantly produced in China, are used throughout the world to connect solar panels and wind turbines to electricity grids. They are also found in batteries, heat pumps and electric vehicle chargers.

While inverters are built to allow remote access for updates and maintenance, the utility companies that use them typically install firewalls to prevent direct communication back to China.

However, rogue communication devices not listed in product documents have been found in some Chinese solar power inverters by U.S experts who strip down equipment hooked up to grids to check for security issues, the two people said.

Over the past nine months, undocumented communication devices, including cellular radios, have also been found in some batteries from multiple Chinese suppliers, one of them said.
