 that the current President is 6 years into a 5 year term, has canceled all elections, banned the largest religious denomination in the country, outlawed 11 political parties- including the party that finished #2 and runner up to him in his election, outlawed all media and consolidated control of media into the state #democracy! - it's beyond laughable for anyone with a brain and even the slightest knowledge of world history to say that the United States has been supporting democracy around the world for 250 years.

What's weird is that while I pretty much agree with utee94's assessment of "Dickface Putin" as he refers to him, to my knowledge the Russian Orthodox church is in relatively good shape.  For Russian history, I mean.  

But Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian government has apparently been putting the absolute screws to the Ukrainian Orthodox church.  Like.....those people are being legit persecuted, if the reports are true.  

That I've found, said reports are hard to come by, and I only know if it via the testimonies of some relative nobodies speaking out, and I find their accounts plausible.  No major media that I know of is covering that, and if true....that's really bad. 

Let me clarify, I'm not sure I worded that well.  I don't know if there's such a thing as a situation where you're waiting as long as jgvol and bab are talking about and then casually deciding whether you run over people or not, without consideration for your safety.  If you're in a mob, that won't let your car pass for any period of time, you are likely in danger.  The idea of sitting there to see how long has to go by before you make some decision to let them peacefully disperse or run them over.....I just don't know if that's a real thing. 

I was trying to invoke a thought experiment in regards to testing one's limits -- like none of us has ever been tested before, I assume.

I doubt any one of us knows what we are truly capable of (in the most horrifying ways possible), but that animal is in there for all of us.  No one seems to have an interest in pondering the thought, however.

Let's hope none of us ever have to actually find out.

We have a subscription to Foreign Affairs that I have rarely read recently. I picked up this month's issue (March/April) and, wow, there's a lot in it worth reading. Foreign Affairs is an opinion journal--it isn't news--but it's editorially pretty balanced. Putin's Ukraine
Putin's Ukraine (pay wall) is pretty interesting reading on Putin, Russia, and the Russification of (parts of) Ukraine (written by a Ukranian journalist, so you can imagine not terribly friendly to Russia/Putin). Doesn't sound like a place I would want to be.

All I can say is that I think I now know which posters on this forum will hit driver off the tee while the group in front of them is still right in the middle of the fairway waiting for the green to clear because the round is "too slow"...

The odds any of us would be stopped by a protest for any appreciable length of time are remote, I think.  I've seen  two marches around here in person.  They do obstruct traffic for 30 minutes or so.  There are enough side streets to get around them.  They didn't make an effort to obstruct traffic, they just marched and chanted, mostly young white folks marching about BLM.  I suspect many of them felt they had done something useful and after the march patted each other on the back for their signaling and went to a bar somewhere.

Both had police escort, which I found a bit ironic.

What about if you are stuck behind them for like three or four holes, and they don't invite you to play through?
