Saw this and thought I'd pass it along...

https://www.cnbc.com/2024/10/22/peloton-costco-partner-to-sell-bike-for-2024-holiday.html

$1995 with the 48-month extended warranty built in is a good deal, even better if you have the executive membership which will knock another $40 off in your 2% reward...

Obviously we all have our own thoughts on how we exercise, including none at all. For me the issue with me and exercise isn't laziness, it's that anytime there's significant "friction" I find reasons not to do it. I previously had a gym membership 0.9 miles from my front door... And didn't go. That was too much friction. Having the Bike+ in my house so I didn't have to leave and go to the gym is a game changer for me personally. The best workouts are any workouts that we actually do, and this is one I actually do. I've completely changed my body in the last 2 1/2 years.

For me personally while the initial investment was high, it actually saves money on a per-month membership basis relative to the gym. My company reimburses up to $40/mo for gym membership. Previously I was spending lower than that, but had a membership for my wife that had zero reimbursement so it was all out of pocket. With this it's $44/mo, so I'm paying $4 out of pocket, but the membership includes account profiles for my wife and kids so I've actually reduced my monthly outlay...

I know @SuperMario has one as well in case he wants to share.

Just figured I'd post it since it looks like it will be a limited time / seasonal thing for now...
I was really against the Peloton at first and my wife really wanted it. So I made a deal with her. I would by a Sunny bike from Amazon that was $400 and if she used it 3 times a week for 6 months and this wasn't just a phase, i'd buy her a Peloton. She did, so Christmas brought her a Peloton and our household far better health. When we decided to build a new home in 2020, we made it a priority to allocate plenty of space to a home gym. I thought i still needed to go to the gym so i did, but for my wife, the Peloton was enough so the monthly expense was about the same, maybe a tad more at that point.

Now enter my physical medical issues and Peloton became incredibly important to me. Prior to, i probably road it 2-3 times a month. Nothing major. Once I could do anything physically, i started on the bike. At that point, even walking was a challenge. i couldn't run, couldn't jump rope and walking wasn't fun, but the bike gave stability and the cardio my body needed. It was truly a blessing to leading towards recovery and building a little strength back.

Nowadays, i have gained a lot back. Our home gym is my gym. I'm no longer about how much can i get my bench, squat, deadlift and physical appearance to. The mindset is way different. It's, what things can i do that lead to a best functional body.  I do way more with dumbells, kettle bells, pull ups, etc so that I hopefully am never in a position I can't even lift up a newborn child, which I had to experience. During the winter and cold months, I'm definitely on the Peloton. I don't do classes, I do the rides with scenery in different parts of the world. During the summer months, i have a couple guys that we do pickleball at lunch when it's nice out and it gives me my physical cardio. I'm crazy thankful that my body has now started to allow the movement and doesn't crazy dizziness nor my head feeling like it's rattling as it's only been a couple months like this.

Long story short, Peloton is pretty incredible for convenience and for less than ideal physical situations. My wife has loved it during pregnancies and we have both loved it for convenience. Some days I don't have a lot of time, but a 20 min ride can push my cardio to where it needs to be and just driving to the gym would be 10 mins there and back so it saves some days that I would have had to skip in the past. Lastly, gym expense used to be about $70 per month for the both of us and Peloton is something like $44 so the monthly expense is slightly less. That being said, i can admit we've definitely outspent the savings on dumbells, kettlebells, benches squat racks and bars and the commercial cable machine that's being added in the spring. With a lot of little kids running around, we have a tiny annual budget on nights out and almost no budget on drinking, so we allocate it to clean food and exercise.  Sometimes life and your body tells you it's time to change or you're out of time.

I heard some older folks tell me similar things when i was younger and it didn't stick as much as it probably should have. Unfortunately, when we're young, we think we're untouchable until we truly go through the life event that shows us we aren't, then wisdom like that seems to ooze out of us.

Yup.  I was doing OK overall until I had my tragedy.  It sapped every ounce of motivation I had for a few years.  I sat around and got fat.  Getting that off seems impossible now.  My motivational attitude is a lot better now, in part due to my wife.

The good news, I hope, is the election is nearly complete.  I don't watch much network TV at all other than sports, an occasional rerun of something, and then I drift off to YouTube if I'm not reading.  I think it used to be that a sports event rarely had some political ad, now it's about all there is.  Thank goodness for the mute button.  I already voted, bye.

I guess the networks earn more money with all of this and the usual advertisers get priced out?

The weather this time of year is generally primo.  Spring has similar Ts but more rain.  My wife asked me if the leaves are changing color later than usual, I'm not sure.  They are just starting to turn here.  I'm not sure what triggers the change in most plants, whether T or a solar cycle, I think the latter mostly.

Years ago, Cleveland's Fox Channel 8 had a long time weatherman named Dick Goddard that was a legend in Cleveland TV. One night, he spoke on this subject. He stated that the changing of the leaves had something to do with the amount of sunlight and a few other factors around that.

However, I saw something that disproved that. I live about 25 miles south of Lake Erie. One fall, the leaves around us were in full color. However, when you got very close to the lake, all of the leaves were still green, void of color. Being as the lake would moderate the air temp close to the lake, while we had frost a few times prior to that, it had yet to frost near the lake.

I don't know if that is definitive evidence, but it would appear that a good cold spell or even frost is what seems to trigger the change in color of leaves.

Just my 2 cents.

Leaves change color?  WTF are you guys talking about?  *walks outside my office in SE Texas, in late October, into the 90 deg daytime temps*

Maples leaves are mostly all down just now in my yard.  I've noticed that with the maples the side of the tree that gets more sun hangs onto the leaves a bit longer.  Upper parts of the tree hit by cooler temperatures or frost loose the leaves first.  I also have some northern oaks that have lost most of their leaves while one down on the corner of the yard still has it's leaves and they're mostly green.  That's usually the case every year so there's quite a bit of variation between individuals within a species.

Sure, they change from green to brown and fall off.  In August.  Due to lack of rain and 100 degree temperatures.

Doesn't that happen everywhere?

With this last hurricane, we had a lot of salt in the air blowing on us. The windows were opaque. Vert weird. Now the leaves on the bushes are brown. Feels like I'm in Chicago, minus the 88-degree temps. I guess they come back, according to long timers.

Mr. Woollybear festival himself. Still crazy to think what a legend a weatherman was.

I'm probably 20 miles from downtown Cleveland myself and this week is stunning. My entire development is bright orange and red.  My kids love the scenery in our backyard right now.

I have two different types of pin oaks near by and those mfers hang on for half the winter seemingly. The the maple gets a little more sun and has dropped about 1/3 of it's leaves but it's been getting cool.Yesterday was suppose to be the high mark for color in this immediate area. And the sharpest looking fall specimen about a half mile away dropped damn near half it's leaves with the temp drop and wind from just 1-2 days
