I also miss not living in a swing state. My football experience was better.

I’m also kinda amused at a certain state race. The Dem candidate has better name recognition because he was a primary contender for maybe a senate seat in 2022. The Republican seems like a guy who has a state legislature role for a minute.

But the gap is the Dem ads look like regular professional ads. He talks at me wearing a suit, says he’ll do good things and his opponents will do bad this, his wholesome looking family appears sometimes. And the other guy pops up on a white background in a button up and slacks looking like a white collar worker pretty content with his job, sort of babbles about how scary his opponent is and then has a ken doll appear with various bland slogans on his shirt (“Woke,” pronouns, etc)

It just feels weird that the Republican who should have an edge based on state pop has ads that look like last month, he said “holy shit I’m losing, we need to throw together ads as quickly as possible.”

I lived 38 years in Ohio and it was BG state almost all of that time.  I moved to GA which had never been, and now it is.

Looking forward to the ads being done.  They are all insulting to anyone with an IQ north of 10.

A fun thing we've discussed a bit would be a 269-269 tie, in which case the House probably would choose Trump as President, and the Senate could well choose Walz as VP.

And folks think our System is sensible?

OK then.

Speaking of a candidate having to be at least "OK", ...  this one isn't.

Carlos Gimenez slams Marjorie Taylor Greene for claim humans can control weather (thehill.com)

I'm not in her district.

I'm really angry about the amount of disinformation on both sides.  MTG seems like an absolute nut job.

I think the people who willfully spread disinformation online are what's driving the country apart.

I could offer so many counterarguments to the initial post about Harris, but I doubt I could say anything that would change your mind. I wish I could. I'm not a huge fan of Kamala Harris--though I voted for her for DA, AG (twice), and senate. She won all of those elections fair and square. Her first AG election was a squeeker, which is one of the only recent ones of that kind in California state-wide politics. I think she was a good DA, and I think she was a good AG. She wasn't in the Senate for that long, so who's to say, but she earned her seat there. Prior to running for the presidency in 2020, she was considered a moderate Democrat, but she did stake out more liberal positions in the primary (as one does on the Blue side, just as the opposite happens on the Red side).

Do I think she would have been the pick in a traditional primary? No (she wouldn't have been my pick, I don't think--but I sure as hell would have picked her over Newsom). But it's still an easy choice for me to vote for her. Could I rant for pages about all that I think is wrong with Trump, and how I can't understand how anyone could support him? Yes. Will that make a difference to you--or anyone else here? I doubt it--but it could start an epic flame war with people that I would rather enjoy the electronic company of, than fight about politics with.

Cincy--I really appreciated your support for SFIrish. She started her life as a moderate leaning Republican, and is now a moderate leaning Democrat. People on the right call her a crazy progressive, because that's what people on the different sides of the aisle say about opponents. Her views changed over time. But more than which party she believes in, she believes in doing the right thing, helping people, and being fiscally wise. She's smart, conscienscious, and I don't agree with her all the time, but I know we would be better off with a lot of people like her in office. Political representation is weird, but I still believe better than any alternative for a modern society. I also got to see all the horrible things people said about her just because they associated her with a certain political team. It's really remarkable. I think that was part of my much earlier post in this thread.

San Francisco is not a dump--as noted, that's why people (including me) spend a ridiculous amount of money to live and work here. It does have a homelessness problem (and has for a long time--year-round temperate weather and liberal social policies both contribute), and petty crime increased, particularly in the COVID and post-COVID environment (I don't think that was unique to California or San Francisco, but it certainly happened here and sucks). I'm in San Francisco 4-5 days a week now, and I've gone to graduate school and worked here since 2000. I lived in the City from 2001 to 2008, then moved to a suburb. The recovery from COVID has been rough. We rely a lot on the financial and tech sectors, and both have struggled to get their workers to return to the office--and both have seen reasons to stop spending on office space. That had a huge impact on our downtown's businesses. We're strarting to get back, particularly Tuesday through Thursday, but Mondays and Fridays are still pretty dead. You can imagine the impact that has on businesses. I'll be surprised if I don't retire here and stay until I move to Colma (that's a local joke: Colma is the city immediately south of San Francisco that has all the cemeteries).

Anyway...Like I said, I doubt I could change your mind, and instead I think I'd get people thinking less of me--and I would think less of people who responded, and that's not worth it to me. But I'm glad you're going to vote. I think that's important. And even that is something that we won't get total agreement on--even from people I have a tremendous amount of respect for. So...

How about skyline chili? What an odd creation.

SF Badger, I would honestly like to hear your thoughts on it.  I would appreciate hearing directly from someone with "boots on the ground".  I have not been to SF in over 20 years, 2001 to be exact, and I'm curious as to how the city really is compared to portrayals in the media and elsewhere.
Even if I don't vote for her, I need to hear some good of a person who could possibly (probably?) become president.  I can't really say much positive about Trump, other than he's already been President and I can't really say he did a bad job overall.

The HoR vote for President is interesting. It would be the new HoR (elected this fall) so technically it is TBD. However, the vote is by State delegation not by total membership and the Republicans hold a probably secure lead on that basis.

The Senate vote for VP is by membership and it is also the new (elected this fall) Senate. I'm not sure that the Senate is restricted to the candidates so I think they could choose Walz, Vance, Harris, Trump, or anyone else.

It isn't clear to me so does anyone know if the existing VP (Harris) gets a vote? If not, or if we somehow ended up with a tie anyway, I'm not sure how that gets resolved.

FYI, if need be we'll take it to a different thread, but I just felt that most of the posters here could keep this above board and civil.  Once it gets to the dungeon or whatever we call that board, it's toast.

I wouldn't eat it.

Joe should have picked Tulsi. Woman of color and very qualified. And anti-war, which I like a lot.

If she ran as an indie, I'd vote for her in a heartbeat. Not that she'd win, but my vote in Florida doesn't matter, just as my vote in Illinois didn't matter.

Hey, did you try to call me? I've been glued to weather reports all day.

My step son lives in San Francisco, we visit him and SF about once a year (they to come here a lot).  Parts of SF are dumps, Tenderloin District in particular.  Most of the city is not only fine, but quite nice.  Our son lives near the ballpark in an expensive apartment and the area is safe and "upscale".  We did one of those bus tours last time we were there and the guide took us by the Tenderloin area, obviously we didn't stop.

Most cities are like that to an extent, maybe not quite that extreme.  Atlanta has bad sections and good.  Obviously I like where we reside.  A lot of the areas that were really bad when I last lived here now have been gentrified and are in high demand.  I know of places where I wouldn't feel comfortable driving through.  Cincinnati was like that as well, some really nice areas, some OK areas, and some bad spots.

Paris is like that as well, the rougher places are mostly outside the "ring road".

To me, most of politics is just "talk" meant to get folks angry (and incentivized to vote and donate etc.).  That leads to divisions and inability to reach compromise in government even when compromise on many issues is pretty obvious.
