I'm in favor of modifying out immigration laws.  I don't like having laws that are not enforced at all.  It sets a poor precedent in my view.

Another strategy would be to improve the lives of folks in the CA countries from which most are coming, but monies sent that way end up in few pockets I suspect.

how witty of you.  If the Italians and Irish are here illegally hell yes send them home too.

Our ancestors kept the border a lot more secure then Brandon is doing today
Lotta criminals in those groups through history. And folks willing to work for less than Americans already here.

We weakened our nation with those folks, and it’s a damn shame.

I agree with most of this. No need to panic at this point. There has been a lot of noise coming out of the mouths of certain economists.

The real investing message, to me, is to rebalance when stock prices climb so much.  Folks often fail to do this, and it can hurt down the road.

If you want to maintain a certain ratio between "stocks and bonds", stock price appreciation can take you away from that ratio.

That was my thought after 2008-9, which hit my retirement funds hard (and I had minimal control over them at the time).  It turned out the recovery was such that I didn't have to.  Once you retire, the prospect of reentering the job market is ... unpleasant.

yup, I retired 3 years ago.

the S&P wasn't far from an all-time high, then it took almost 3 years to get back there just recently

I'm thankful I wasn't pulling money out the past couple years

I could do that again, if needed

there may be a stretch of logic for illegal immigration of workers

there is none for the illegal smuggling of fentanyl

knock it off
Max and Fro in this thread are a case study in the effectiveness of propaganda.

The arguments for refusing to secure the border (even if you want unlimited immigration) are transparently ludicrous but the Koch brothers, Carlos Slim, the Republican donors, and the Democrats have spent millions telling them what to believe and they aren't willing to consider anything else.

I think it is the opposite. The United States is rolling demonstration of the power of free flowing immigration, and yet you are trying to convince us that the opposite is true.
