What would be the possible negatives associated with a significant withdrawal from the world by the USA?  I'm not proposing this, I'm pondering it, but imagine the following happened, what would be some downsides?

1.  Withdrawal from every military alliance in which the US participates, including NATO.
2.  Withdrawal of troops based in South Korea/Okinawa, plus Europe/ME/wherever.
3.  Cut military budget by "half".  Maybe retain 10 AC carriers to be based on US territory, the nuclear "deterrent", subs,  smaller Army and Marine Corps and Air Force.
4.  Cut foreign aid to near zero.
5.  Withdraw from the UN, or perhaps remain for show, but don't pay the bills.  Maybe ask them to move out of NYC.

#4 is where I would stop, to be honest.

1. A complete withdrawal from NATO is not in the cards at the moment. Putin would immediately act to put the Soviet band back together. It would be bloody in the Baltics.

2. Removal of troops from the Pacific would encourage China to take Taiwan, and it won't stop there. Taiwan is extremely important for the US, which is an unfortunate threat to our national security. South Korea is the same.

3. I don't know how you go about cutting the budget. There are already issues with the forces getting smaller. Gen Z is not buying in.

5. I'd pull back on the funding. And yes, tell them to move it to Geneva. The UN building can be a home for migrants that way.

How To Tell Whether You’re Rich
Upper class: The top 20% of earners, with household incomes of $149,132 or more.
What sets the rich apart is that they aren’t worrying about whether they can afford a vacation, Van Alstyne said, they’re deciding on where to purchase a vacation home and can vacation in exotic locations for extended periods of time.

“Making ends meet and having conversations regarding weekly, monthly and annual lifestyle impacts isn’t a concern for the rich,” he said.

Yeah, I'm now trying to figure out where to purchase a vacation home.

I mean, I rent my current house, so I don't actually own a home. But a vacation home sounds fun!

And I mean, my wife and I work and so we don't actually have "extended periods of time" to spend in exotic locales, OR the vacation home we don't own.

But why let any of that stop me? The web site says I'm rich, so I need a vacation home!

Shouldn't it be like both parties:  money-leaning?

wonder what they refer to as the top 10%

I'd probably go with upper middle for the top 20% and rich for the top 10

Doesn't matter. Vapid useless content that doesn't mean anything is not necessarily ideological.

I'd say it was the produced by the party of "stupid", but that covers both the right and the left, so it doesn't answer your question.

If middle is 50%, why would you use 'middle' anywhere near 20%?

If middle is 50%, why would you use 'middle' anywhere near 20%?
because it doesn't fit my definition of rich

maybe we need an upper class and then a rich instead of jumping from upper middle to rich?

funny to me how we have 3 middle classes

Different sites break things out differently of course, there isn't one "right" way.

Hidden in this is wealthy folks who don't earn much taxable income.

Ddemocrats promise to raise taxes (on the rich) and Republicans promise to cut spending.  In my view, neither does either (to any extent).  So, we have a persistent deficit problem that won't go away and likely won't get much better.

That would make me under half way to rich, that number would definitely be considered comfortable. But taking the Federal Government's word for it reminds us of the old adage. Doing business with them is like wearing a rubber - gives one the feeling of security while being screwed
