What would be the possible negatives associated with a significant withdrawal from the world by the USA?  I'm not proposing this, I'm pondering it, but imagine the following happened, what would be some downsides?

1.  Withdrawal from every military alliance in which the US participates, including NATO.
2.  Withdrawal of troops based in South Korea/Okinawa, plus Europe/ME/wherever.
3.  Cut military budget by "half".  Maybe retain 10 AC carriers to be based on US territory, the nuclear "deterrent", subs,  smaller Army and Marine Corps and Air Force.
4.  Cut foreign aid to near zero.
5.  Withdraw from the UN, or perhaps remain for show, but don't pay the bills.  Maybe ask them to move out of NYC.

#4 is where I would stop, to be honest.

1. A complete withdrawal from NATO is not in the cards at the moment. Putin would immediately act to put the Soviet band back together. It would be bloody in the Baltics.

2. Removal of troops from the Pacific would encourage China to take Taiwan, and it won't stop there. Taiwan is extremely important for the US, which is an unfortunate threat to our national security. South Korea is the same.

3. I don't know how you go about cutting the budget. There are already issues with the forces getting smaller. Gen Z is not buying in.

5. I'd pull back on the funding. And yes, tell them to move it to Geneva. The UN building can be a home for migrants that way.

Lower class: The bottom 20% of earners with household incomes not exceeding $28,007.
Lower middle class: Those in the 20th to 40th percentile of household income, between $28,008 and $55,000.
Middle class: Those in the 40th to 60th percentile of household income, ranging from $55,001 to $89,744.
Upper middle class: Households in the 60th to 80th percentile, with incomes between $89,745 and $149,131.
Upper class: The top 20% of earners, with household incomes of $149,132 or more.

Ddemocrats promise to raise taxes (on the rich) and Republicans promise to cut spending.  In my view, neither does either (to any extent).  So, we have a persistent deficit problem that won't go away and likely won't get much better.
