I was pretty into stereo stuff in high school. I built up my system through timely pawn shop acquisitions, as well as some creative "borrowing" from my dad, when he stopped using his own equipment. When I went off to college I replaced it all with newer flashier stuff that was lower in quality, and didn't last, but over the past few years I unearthed all of it that was still in my parents' guest bedroom closet.
I still have my newish home theater system driving the audio for the TV, plus all streaming music.
But separately, in my "parlor" I have set up my old Technics stereo amplifier/receiver (which seems to be considered "decent" by modern audiophiles that are trying to replicate vintage systems), some pretty basic Boston Acoustics floor speakers, and a super nice Garrard turntable that's actually my dad's but shhhh don't tell him. I also have a TEAC equalizer with the cool bouncy LEDs but honestly those really don't help the signal, and typically make it worse. And then there's my Sony dual tape deck. It still works, but I only have a couple of cassette tapes anymore. Most of them died in my car in the Texas heat, over the years.
And of course, lamp cord speaker wire to connect it all up.
Edit: OH, and my original single-disc Sony CD player, too. Still works great. I probably went through 2 or 3 multi-disc changers in the ensuing years that all flaked out and died.
