The question is where I can get a good serrated slicer with left-handed serration?

For now I just use a 12" slicer, which works fine.

You can get roast slicers that aren't scalloped, but the wavy edge helps quite a bit when cutting through dense, crusty bark on a BBQ brisket.

And if your BBQ brisket doesn't have dense, crusty bark, then you're doing it wrong. :)

This kills me, because the only place that does really good brisket in my town isn’t open often, and the next time it’s open I will not be in town.

There was a BBQ stand at the county fair, and I bought some just because I hadn't had good BBQ in over a year.

WOO WEE. Was it bad. It was a sampler with ribs, brisket and pulled pork, and all of it was cold.

It was like they pulled it out of the fridge and tried to warm it up, but they were in a hurry and they didn't warm it up nearly enough.

I wound up throwing like half of it in the garbage.

Best $20 I ever spent.

Why isn't there another place in town that does really good brisket?

For example... Your house?

I'm a crap cook. Just hasn't settled into being a passion. I make a few things I like, but that's about it.

There's a place that I'm told is quite good, though I can't imagine the same care goes into the brisket. Been meaning to try it at some point.

I wanted to look at some data to test my theory that the loss per hour is relatively low at Roulette. I looked up some data, and I think I'm right and @longhorn320 's assertion that it is a sucker bet is wrong.

Here is a link to a table of spins, rolls, and hands per hour in Roulette, Craps, and Blackjack:
https://wizardofodds.com/ask-the-wizard/136/

Per that chart, with five players (it varies a LOT based on number of players) you get:

  • 70 Blackjack hands per hour,
  • 144 Craps rolls per hour, or
  • 48 Roulette spins

Assuming $10 tables and that you bet the minimum each time and hit the average payout your cost per hour would be:
  • $14 at Blackjack: I'm assuming 98% payout and you play 70 hands in an hour. The 70 hands cost $700 (70*$10). The 2% that you lose is $14 ($700*.02).
  • $28.80 at Craps: I'm using the same 98% payout but now you have more games per hour so the 144 rolls cost you $1,440. The 2% that you lose is $28.80.
  • $24 at Roulette: I'm using the roughly 95% payout so the 48 spins cost you $480 and you lose 5% of that or $24.

From the above it looks like Blackjack is much cheaper per hour than either Craps or Roulette but that is with five players at each game. From what I have seen in Vegas (I haven't been in ages, maybe this has changed?) the Craps and Roulette tables have WAY more players than the Blackjack tables. So I think the fair comparison involves much more crowded and therefore slower Craps and Roulette tables. I still think Roulette is the cheapest per hour game.

If your goal is to lose money at a snails pace while amassing free drinks, then your best bet is to park at a nickle machine and play one credit at a time.

Yes.

I don't gamble much. I haven't been to Vegas in over a decade but when I have gambled I've viewed it as an entertainment expense. As such, my concern is the loss per hour which I think is lowest at a crowded Roulette wheel.

Maybe, but I just find slots to be ridiculously boring so even if the loss per hour is low, the entertainment value is also low to me. Also, plays per hour can be really high at slots.

Good point and I haven't been in years so I'm with you, away from the casino.

I love Vegas, but only for the food and shows and general debauchery. I have almost no interest in gambling either.

We go every so often and gamble one night.  I set a limit of $100, but usually I quit before I get there unless the table is "fun".  It's entertainment, or it isn't.

The wife does penny slots, which aren't a penny any more, and she often wins $5-6.  She loves the pool at the Trump, seriously, it's a nice pool.  Rental cars are dirt cheap and we get one to drive up into Utah, I really enjoy Zion NP.

I was musing about card counting a bit, imagine you play at the $10 table with a $2500 limit and you see the odds shift from 2% against to 2% for, and you place a $2500 bet.  And lose.  You still have that 2% edge, and repeat it, and lose again.  Then they reshuffle the deck.  Even at 52:48, if you get there, it's basically 50-50.  Over time, with enough funds, you can work the odds in your favor, but it would be work, and perhaps if your "worked" a normal job you could make more and faster.

It seems like a tough way to make any money, which could be why casinos don't much care.  They can rely on folks who THINK they can CC but really can't.  Those who really can might take a few bucks but it's chump change for them.  And I imagine often the deck remaining in a six deck shoe is usually in their favor.

How often does it flip?
