The Spanish flu didn't originate in Spain.  Because they were not in the war, they could report on it.  The news was quashed in France, GB, and the US, and Germany.

People are now just rolling their eyes and saying “whatever.”
No they're not.  Just you people.

Ebola is named after the river in the Congo where it was first identified.

It was actually named for a river near there, not the closest river, as I recall.  They were confused.

Disease is often named for a person or place, it's not the end of the world.

I guarantee you if covid had originated in the US it would be called the American virus

Yes that was my understanding that the 1st reports came out of there hence the title. Not sure if combatants knew or not as the horrific battle casualties was the focus

I have visited four American cemeteries in  France.  Many of the dates are 1919, clearly non-war related (mostly).  The flu killed far more than died in battle.

Estimates are that 500 million got sick, a third of the global population, and 50 million died.

This is scary obviously to contemplate today where travel is far more extensive.

Yep. Playing 18 in about an hour. So I have to forget everything I learned yesterday because it's too early to integrate into a full swing...

...and I don't want to be at a disadvantage in our high stakes ($1/hole) skins game!
we play for quarters
I'd rather play for dollars, but.......... some folks don't

I played some sh!t golf yesterday... Got around in a +33 at a pretty easy course.

But my good holes happened when it counted--won 11 skins despite only winning 5 holes...

pick your spots to swoop in and grab the money!

shit golf here yesterday but the wind was 25-30 mph

I always tell my partners, today isn't the day to break 80, the windy day is the time to break 100

going back at it again in a couple hours.  30-35 mph this afternoon

The winds here in Florida- this time of year- are BRUTAL on your game.

I played a tough course last Wednesday afternoon in high winds.  Shot 104.  Played the same course Friday early (first t-time) before the wind got up.  Shot 81. ( much more normal score)  Actually hit the ball better on the Wednesday.
