I applied for a home loan in 1981, the quoted interested rate was 17.5% 30 year fixed.

I passed.  Another bank bailed out the owner of the new condos and gave me a 3 year ARM at 12.5%.  I took it.  Got a sweet deal on the unit too, 80% of original listing cost.

This would hammer real estate values in time and make imports expensive and raw materials expensive.

When I first started investing for real, the DJIA was around 600.  Commissions were $70 per trade.  There was an odd lot fee.

Hey, that it was even created makes me want to puke, but the fact that it had a "dismal showing" at least restored a tiny amount of faith in people...
Many, many boardgames are crowd-funded.  I looked into it, but yeah, I'm not a fan.  For me, ideas (and businesses) should succeed or fail on merit.  When it comes to ideas/games/whatever on these crowdfunding sites, it's speculation and then a form of debt....social debt?  Or perks for speculating with their money?  Idk.

Just put it out there and trust in your product, man.

As for former royals asking for money, yeah, that's gross.  I applaud them for leaving all that, though.  But the financial ramifications were obvious, so they should have had some kind of plan for that - a book or big payday for a sit-down interview, etc.  They need to spend some time eating Top Ramen and 2-for-1 gas station hotdogs.  That'll put some hair on their chests.

Living poor for a while does sharpen your empathy and your financial discipline.

I've been told I need much more empathy and less financial discipline

Exactly.
If they did, for 5 minutes, they'd freak.

Its one thing to have disagreements with your in laws but something else to go on Oprah and bash them

I lost all respect for them when that happened

I would have lost all respect for them also provided I had any respect for them in the first place.

I'd bash anyone for the kind of money they got for doing that interview (I assume).  Even you.

The DMV here was shockingly efficient.  We were out in 30 minutes, new DL, and registered to vote.  Very easy.

I was prepared to spend hours.  The wife was shocked as well.
It is even simpler in Arizona.  Once you have your original License it doesn't expire until you are 65.  To update, you go to a website, fill in some information and less than a week later you have a new license with your current address. You only have to update your photo every 12 years.
