If a 90 mph fastball is in the same place every time, you can time it up.  With a live pitcher, that isn't happening, and at that speed it's bound to have some movement.

I used to be better before the spinal fusion. Can't turn like I used to. Maybe that will be good for golf, if I take that plunge.

A couple weeks back, I started a cure and then smoke of about 17# of pork belly for bacon. Just sliced it all up.

Ended up with almost 120 slices of very thick cut bacon and almost 2# of chopped odds and ends for lardons to go into other recipes.

I need a big-ass meat slicer. Slicing this crap by hand is no joke.

I also have a giant brisket in the fridge as well as about 7# of chuck. Plan is to grind the chuck and the brisket point for a burger blend, and then use the brisket flat for homemade corned beef. My wife has some Irish heritage and corned beef on St Patrick's day is a tradition, but this will be the first time we've actually cured our own from scratch.

Tonight we're doing our Valentine's Day dinner since we had the kids last weekend. Making a big filet paired with a very large (>1#) lobster tail, paired with some sous vide asparagus with hollandaise. Planning on raiding the wine cellar* for one of our really good bottles.

We've got a bunch of leftover whole milk and heavy cream from recipes and making vanilla ice cream last weekend with the kids, so we're going to start a batch of coffee & chocolate chip ice cream today too.

All that after taking the dog on a 3+ mi walk to start the day, and fitting in the Purdue game at 2:30.

Busy day.

You have too much bacon.  I'll do you a solid and take some of it off your hands.

Our coach was Kris Medlen, he can still bring it.  Nice guy.  When you play the pros the last day, your pitching coach throws against you.  Guys like Steve Avery don't have an arm left so it's not hard.  I had Marvin Freeman one year and he could get it up there sidearm at about 85.  Nobody hit that.

I hit off Pete Smith one year and drilled a couple foul so he got nasty and brought a slider, and then laughed at me.  Pete is a good guy, they all are.  His first pitch was on the inner half and I like'em inside, I bat left handed, and I turned on it but it went foul.

Fantasy Camp is a real highlight for me, cancelled this year.  Major bummer.
Reminds me of a question - if you had 100 at-bats how many hits would you get off of a MLB pitcher.
The answer is NONE.
.
If they're being nice and not mixing it up too much, you'll hit a few foul and then hit some fair and a few would get through as hits.  But if they're in game-mode with grit in their teeth, none of us is hitting much of anything in 100 tries.

Hey, if you were local, I'd throw you some bacon. Why not?

As it is, bacon is EXTREMELY easy to make, and better [and cheaper] than the store-bought stuff. You could do this quite easily yourself... I'd be more than happy to guide you through the process.

Maybe send it in a bubble mailer?  Aged bacon is still bacon, right?

I always wondered what an unsliced slab of bacon would taste like, grilled like a steak or whatever.

I vaguely remember the America's cup being a big deal when I was young. It's on NBCSN right now, and whatever the hell they are racing, is barely a boat
