Not sure if anyone has read alternate history by Harry Turtledove.

I read one called The Guns of the South, which ended up being a sci-fi version of alternate history. A bunch of post-apartheid South Africans discover time travel, and decide that if they can just get the American Civil War to go the opposite direction, their own failed subjugation of blacks in South Africa won't have to end--so they supply the south with AK-47's. There's a lot more to it, and I realize that sounds ridiculous, but it's not a bad read.

A much better (and less fantastic) one was Ruled Brittania. Premise is that after the Spanish (rather than the English) wins the war in the late 1500's and conquers Britain. The story comes down to a young playwright who is tasked with writing a play that will cause the English to rise up and take back their nation from the Spanish... I'm sure you can imagine which young playwright is the star of the show lol...

Read that in middle school.

He did some follow ups that were kinda interesting, but they sidestepped the AK-47s.

Yeah, I got into alternative history a bit, and then more into history and historical fiction.  It's a good way to learn history enjoyably with well done historical fiction.

I'm finding the "AH" stuff allows me to make up almost whatever I want as time progresses.

in completely "other" news................

PORT CLINTON - Even as fishing in the “Walleye Capital of World” has certainly been living up to its name over the past two years, experts are projecting it could be on the verge of getting even better.

That capital, of course, is none other than Lake Erie, or even more specifically, its western basin, where the walleye population is reaching what scientists have described as “unprecedented” heights and is leading to incredible catch rates for anglers.

“Walleye fishing has never been better,” said Travis Hartman, a biologist with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Wildlife, about western Lake Erie.

Trawl surveys in western Lake Erie have documented enormous walleye hatches in 2015, 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Although 2020 is the smallest of those four examples, it is still considered another great hatch.

“Prior to 2015, I’d have been doing jumping jacks over our catches this year for young-of-year walleyes,” Hartman said. “We are in an incredible period of production.”

Fantasy baseball camp has been cancelled.  I guess I'm not surprised but I am bummed.  Not many years left in these legs.

I am not sure Ford made the right call calling this a "Mustang".  On the one hand, it associates the car with a very successful brand name.  On the other, it isn't "like" Mustangs of yore, except the ill fated Mustang II perhaps in ways.

Ford messed up the Thunderbird, IMHO, back in the day.

Either way, the EVs are coming, and I suspect many of us will own one before we drive our last mile.
I was at a Halloween party last month and one of the Ford engineers drove one to the party that she had just picked up in Detroit earlier that day. A couple of friends and I went out to investigate. It had some pretty nice features, but was wrong in so many ways. As a Mustang guy that grew up with a 1964 1/2 Mustang and a couple since then, I told her that while that car was nice and had some nice features, calling something that looked like a station wagon a Mustang was simply wrong. She stated that they were associating it to the Mustang as far as driving experience.  I said, that may be but it does NOT look like a Mustang. We agreed to disagree and went back into the party and drank more beer.

That reminds me, I have some Walleye in the freezer that I need to get cooked up. Sounds like dinner in the next couple of days.

I think so.  They could call it a Fairlane or something, fine with me, same car.

It may be a fine car, but it isn't a pony.

We have snow in the forecast for this evening and cold Ts move into the area and push off the rain.

This is our first freeze of the year.

Agreed. If you want to make an electric Mustang, make an electric Mustang.

Don't make a 4-door crossover and call it a Mustang.

There are two competing marketing ideas here-- one is using a strong, premier brand as an umbrella to create a halo effect for less desirable sub-brands under it.

And the other is diluting a strong, premier brand and weakening it by associating it with lesser products.

It's pretty obvious to me which direction this one is going.

Whether or not this is a "nice" vehicle is irrelevant-- it's clearly an inferior product with respect to the intent of the Mustang brand.  And it will only serve to weaken the brand by association.
