If I have to eat fast food, Chick-Fil-A would be my preferred option, except for breakfast.

I really do avoid all chains of any ilk (beyond some places that have 3-4-5 outlets).  I liked Eddie Merlot's because I had a wine locker and could buy wine at retail.  I hate paying restaurant markups for wine.

Annoyed. Yesterday I had to go drop off some samples at a customer site, right around lunchtime, and it just so happens that it put my right by a place with awesome Italian Beef sandwiches. It's a little place in a "food court" area that is only open M-F during daytime, as it caters to the office crowd.

Well, there is no office crowd due to COVID, so they're closed.

I was very disappointed. And hungry. Which is how I ended up in the Popeye's drive through to begin with.

I still want to know if fried chicken can be, on its own, a sandwich.

I don't go out for chicken sammiches, I don't make chicken sammiches at home.

But, I'm certainly going to the bar tonight for Wings Wednesday.  Gonna destroy a basket of hot wings!

That sucks.

I'm going to make my own in a couple of weeks. The trick will be getting the bread. I have to find a good source here.

Mmm, bread. Is that a particular sort of roll. I've only every had Italian beef from a short-lived truck in Madison, and it was great but I had no sense for the finer points.

Weirdly some of the better bread I've gotten here in the sort that I use for most sandwiches is from the cheapest grocery store. It's not unreal, but highly serviceable.

That photo is so nice, I can't tell if it's a restaurant or if you're skipping the middle man and just making the same food, but better.

Picture is not mine, but I will be making my own tonight for sure. Fries too. Got the peanut oil today and the fryer is on the counter, ready to go.

I fried a burger last night at home

80/20 beef, sauteed red onion and green pepper, soy sauce.  Wisconsin smoked cheddar cheese.

no bun - no fries - no beer

had broccoli with plenty of butter as my side

drank water

trying to cut back, once in a while

I've got 80-20 too, from the local butcher. After TG, I will grind up a batch of my own.
