I think I generally share UTee's view of the Star Wars franchise. I like it, but you'll never see me at Comicon. The first one was the best, but Empire is one of the great sequels. I never loved Return of the Jedi--it was a step down, and almost inevitable given how good the first two were. I actively don't like the prequels, but seeing them through my kids' eyes, I can at least understand them (but the Anakin Padme relationship is just awful, as was Jar Jar). The most recent crop was mostly fan service, but without a solid roadmap to follow, so the second movie didn't really fit with the first and third. And none of them were very good stories. But they were fun, which is the point. Some of the spinoffs have been good, many have not. I liked Rogue One, I really didn't like the Han Solo movie, and I just got bored with the TV. I've heard Andor is quite good, but I've lost interest, at least for a while. I suspect Disney knows this is a common reaction because we haven't seen a big movie release in a while.
Someday I'll come back to some of it (Andor, I heard Bad Batch is solid), but I'm also ok with just knowing the first two movies were all-timers. That's enough for me.
When my kids were little, I narrated the original movie to them several times, to the point that when SFIrish was away for a weekend, I decided they should just watch the movie, and I would fast forward the "scary" parts. That worked great, and they loved it. Parenting win, even if I had a little explaining to do when the wife got home.
