Oh, and Vegas is bad. The last time I was supposed to go got canceled by the pandemic and I was incredibly relieved. (Also, one member of the traveling party seemed like an absolutely unpleasant human, so I never met him.)

I think Vegas is bad if you don't know what it is all about very well.  If you understand what is there and why, it's OK, in my view.  There is a lot of neat stuff near Vegas.

The weather can be a nice respite in winter.  Rental cars are cheap.  One key is to set $X to gamble, and stick to it.  I usually go one night with my wife and gamble $100 to lose and quit.  The last two times I've ended up losing about $40 in an hour or so, and quit anyway.  My wife plays slots and she gets bored in an hour.

I can go to Vegas for a week and not gamble at all.

I don't love Vegas.  Once every 6-9 years is more than enough for me.

I have a group of friends that do a big guys' trip there every year and they're always trying to convince me to go.  I tell them every year, "Switch that trip to New Orleans and I'm totally in."

Right there with you. I went in 2021 and I thought it was actually worse than in the past considering I couldn't walk down the street without inhaling a massive amount what everyone else was smoking.  We used it as a starting point to hit up the Grand Canyon. So the part of Vegas that's great is the hotel portion and a lot of great food places. I'm sure there's a lot of awesome shows and events but I've never seen one there, so i guess i probably don't appreciate that portion of it. Just so many better places to travel for my likes.

I haven't been to Vegas since 2014, but even then everything was owned by publicly traded companies and the squeeze was on.

I don't mind Vegas, I just don't go to the strip at all, not even the old strip, Fremont street

golf courses, great winter weather, cheap flights, plenty to do.
many of the small casinos far away from the strip have inexpensive food and drinks

it's similar to going to any other western city, Denver, Phoenix, Salt Lake

I will amend what I said to clarify that I deeply do not enjoy the classic Vegas experience with friends.

I’ve never been with a partner, and I’m sure that would change a lot of behavior.

I generally go once a year because there is a usually a football game that I want to attend.  As to gambling, I only play a game called "Let it Ride"  only a few casinos still have this game. The wife and I can generally nurse a couple hundred dollars a piece for several hours, sometimes walk away with money sometimes not. Though one time I did turn a $21 bet into $4,200.  I am sure through the years I have probably given it back. It is a nice evening of playing, talking with other players, drinks and generally having a good time. Can't imagine that I would go there just to gamble. 

BTW The Sphere is great.  Saw The Eagles there when I went there for the Browns-Raiders game.  The show was fantastic, quite the experience.

Vegas sucks.

Been 3 times.  Each very forgettable.

Just not my thing.  

(I am also surrounded by casinos on the Mississippi River, and that isn't my thing either.)
