So the Athletic lost Andy Staples right before last season, as their top college football wroter, and sort of jointly promoted Ari Wasserman and Nicole Auerbach, who are now both leaving as well?

The more I see and read on the Trump assassination attempt, the more I feel like it was actually allowed to happen. The details coming out now are just plain scary.

Even more scary would be that it was actually intended that Trump be protected. If so, the entire agency needs to be blown up and started over from scratch, top on down.

No DEI. Only the best of the best need apply.

I’ve heard Ari is following Andy. Which makes sense based on his interests.

Where Nicole ends up, that’ll be interesting.

Not surprised The Athletic is not gonna throw all the money at people these days. They’re just in a weird spot (always kinda were).

I don't think either added much. What was good about the site was their high quality team specific stuff. Insert generic national writer here didn't move the needle much as they drifted away from that

For some reason, I didn't care for the TV series "The Pacific".  It was odd, I thought "Band of Brothers" was superb, and faithful to the book.  I recently started reading "The Pacific", the book, and it's decent, disjointed I find, but decent.  I've read "With the Old Breed" several times and "Helmet for My Pillow", and I thought the former was particularly excellent as a memoir.  I'm not sure "The Pacific" adds that much, but it's not bad.

I've read a fair bit of military history and of course it ranges from superb to "just OK" to some that I quit after 2 chapters or so.

Barbarossa by Alan Dean Clark is on of my favorites.
Great book.  What a brutal conflict.

That book opened my eyes about WW 2 when I first read it.  I had had a very Western concept of it for obvious reasons.  I probably was 20 or so.  I've read it several times since.  Russians tend to be paranoid because they keep being invaded.

I think this factors a bit into Putin's thinking.  He doesn't want Ukraine in NATO, duh.  I think the best way to end that war has to be a commitment for that not to happen, and then some land for peace.  It's not a good solution, but better than dragging this out interminably.

Being present in the United States without legal documentation is in itself not a crime. Though some of the ways of entering the US may be considered federal crimes, the act of being here without legal documentation is not considered a federal crime. There is a vast percentage (45%) of undocumented people that do not enter this country illegally. They may enter legally but may overstay their visa, work without authorization, etc.

Being an undocumented person in the US is only punishable legally if someone has already left or been deported and has reentered without permission. They may be subject to imprisonment of up to 2 years.

I have a guess about where they pulled this from

Originally Answered: From what percentage is it right to call something "vast majority" as opposed to just saying “majority”?
There's no definitive answer to that—it’s very subjective.

I would probably describe it as being a majority of at least 75 percent, but I am sure there would be others who would accept nothing less than 90 percent as a ‘vast majority’.

It’s as impossible as trying to pin down a precise definition or numerical value for words such as small, long, substantial, and so on.

And, as pointed out by Bruce R. Bain, such rhetoric is overused. If you have the facts, supply them. Worn-out catchphrases will only impress the unthinking reader.

On the plus side, we'll probably soon get Ari and Andy back together, which is very good. I tried some of Andy's On3 stuff, and his cohosts were kinda meh. The Athletic's other pod people are better, but none were that great.
