Just an awful system.
In some places that's in the building code. It was like that in my old home up North. It's not like that here.

The theory is that if a fire breaks out in one part of the house, the detectors will alert everyone in the entire house of the fire. However, I am about to disconnect them from each other and leave them as stand alone detectors.

You don't have to swim faster than the shark, you just have to not be the slowest swimmer in the group
We used say that about the bears in Quebec/N.Ontario on fishing trips. Had a few close calls to,turns out I have another gear when threatened with getting shredded comes into play

But I’d like to lose weight and get in shape. Time seems to be my enemy.
I'm finding that losing weight is more about what you put into your face than what you do exercise-wise. After dropping roughly 15 pounds since I started exercising again, I've now been plateaued for a couple of months at least. I can see the physical changes from all the exercise, but the weight isn't actively dropping. Too much beer, probably.

I'm not focusing on that side of it much right now. I'm certainly heavier than I should be, but they say one of the metrics for men is keeping your waist <40", and even at 260# I'm fitting comfortably into 38" jeans. And I have slimmed down enough that I can at least see where my abs should be lol... I assume that as I build strength it'll continue to raise my metabolism and if the pounds drop slowly I'm not worried.

Here in CA the houses are small enough that one single smoke detector will alert everyone in the house (and probably half the neighbors) without a problem.

I’m at 260-270 (6-3). Waist was 38 for a long, long time but finally conceded to 40 a few years back. But I seem to be holding there. I agree on what goes into your mouth, not ready to make changes yet I guess. Talk is cheap.

On the other hand, I am an excellent swimmer.

I had no idea we had so many giants among us.  I'm a measly 5'10".  Currently weigh around 190 which is about 20-25 lbs heavier than I need to be.  I generally drop a decent amount of weight in the spring and that's currently underway, but it's not happening nearly as fast as it did 10 years ago.

220 is a very comfortable weight for me. Have not been that thin since 2102/2013.

Took a day job that was very sedentary for a few years. Didn’t slow my eating.

I get it, but if you don’t have a good indicator, you’re just wasting a customer’s time.

It can’t be that hard to have a flashing light on the one that’s the issue.

6'5" 260#.

Ideal weight would probably be around 240. Which would still put me at a BMI of 28.5, but my own primary care doctor told me I should never pay attention to BMI because I have well above average muscle mass. Before exercising I was getting close to 280, and that was a little too tubby for my taste lol. So my goal will be to gain muscle and lower my body fat percentage, but I'm much less concerned about what the scale says.

Yeah BMI tend to misrepresent me as well, due to above average muscle mass and body density.  Hence, the sinking rather than floating.

But I have a very good idea of exactly where my weight needs to be, given my normal body mass makeup characteristics.  At 165-170, I'm properly lean and fit, given what I would consider to be a "normal" amount of exercise (which I had been neglecting up until the New Year).  Sitting at 190, I'm not there.  And we're headed to the beach in June so I have to get my summer beach body going on :)

At 190, you might actually float :57:

Sadly, no.  I must be big-boned and thick-skinned...
