whats going on in Iowa with their baseball team and similar betting issues?
There is not much information released about the betting issues.
This started as a criminal investigation. No one has been charged.
The speculation is that the criminal investigation concerns underage gambling in Iowa, i.e. gambling by persons under the age of 21. If true, the persons being swept up in the investigation are not just athletes, but online casinos and persons under age 21, using a phone or computer to place online bets.
The NCAA prohibits wagering by NCAA athletes on any sport, amateur or professional.
There is no information concerning what sports or teams the athletes are suspected of betting on.
Since no one has been charged and little information has been released, much of this post is speculative.

Brice Matthews is the first player in the 134 year history of Husker Baseball to have 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in a season

Iowa and Maryland have the inside track to the championship game. They each have two chances to win one game to get in the final.
Iowa's opponent on 5/27/23, Michigan, must beat Iowa 2x to reach the championship game.
Maryland's opponent on 5/27/23, Nebraska, must beat Maryland 2x to reach the championship game.

Baseball conference tournaments are exceptionally stupid and should be done away with

yup, the Huskers should have had the Terps Thursday night, but oh well.

Fortunately, the Skers got a great performance last night from Will Walsh.  Complete game 4-hit shutout.
This saved the staff from work and gives them at least a shot at Maryland today.
Homefield won't hurt.

The Badgers have already abolished itself from the conference tournament.

Very much so. That history is interesting to me. Every year some random people think UW could use a team, but it doesn't make much sense.

I just think the tournaments often pack just a lot of arm usage into a tight window with little upside. I'll credit the Big Ten for dropping five teams off the bat.

I'd credit the B1G if they'd drop men's lacrosse and men's soccer

It is Iowa @ Maryland in Omaha. Seems like more of a home game for Iowa.
Maryland is the top hitting team in the Big Ten. Iowa is the top pitching team.
The 1970s - 80s Orioles taught me pitching is the most important aspect of the game coming down the wire. Maryland is the best hitting team in the Big Ten; Iowa is the best pitching team in the Big Ten.  I am not sure who is starting for either team.
Maryland has the advantage of being the #1 seed and having the best hitting. Iowa has the advantage of being the best pitching team.

Florida was the 1 seed in Hoover, but won't play for the tournament title.
We sweep Vandy in the 2nd-to-last series of the year, then beat them in the tournament, but the Commodores beat us once and are into the final.
SEC tournament is single-elimination, then double-elimination, then single-elimination.  Who came up with THAT?!?
