Akron (1-3) at #10 Ohio State (1-0, 3-1) Post Game

7:30 PM BTN

Buckeye QB Stroud is injured and out for the game except in an emergency says Ryan Day.  Last time I checked the Buckeyes were favored by like 50 points.

I suspect that Akron smells blood in the water.

The Zips have the distinction of being the only team in the MAC that has ever defeated the Buckeyes.

Yes actually Stroud has had a fairly serious shoulder injury since before the first game against Minnesota.

As you all know the back up quarterback is always the most popular guy in town during football season anyway and then add in these fickle raving lunatic Ohio State Buckeye fans and you can imagine that Day is the villain lately on message boards despite his damn near perfect record.

All of the Monday morning quarterbacks think they know better than the quarterback whisperer himself as to who should be starting at quarterback.

From watching the spring game I’m going to guess that McCord gets the nod over Miller but I think they would both do fine. Probably get to see both of them play.

Ain't that the truth. Stroud is actually good, and Buckeye fans seem to hate him. They should try some of the QB's that Michigan has had. Lol.

Two things:

Why the hell is this a night game?

Why is that spread so high? Has Vegas actually seen Ohio State's defense this year?

Last time OSU was favored by 50+ was against Rutgers in 2019. They didn't cover.

The time before that was against Florida A&M, also with a backup QB (Kenny G), and they won 76-0, with Smooth Jazz tossing 6 TDs, all in the first half. Then Freshman Cardale Jones played the entire 2nd half, without throwing a single forward pass.

But it is all moot of course, as the spread for this game has now dropped below 50 at 49.

Yes they think a 19-year-old, who had never been on the football field of a crowded stadium. Can walk out in a conference road game, full crowd, and look like Justin fields. He’s already top 20 in QBR and top 10 in yards.

understandably, he’s had a few shaky moments where he sails the ball high but at other times he has illustrated a clear NFL arm and an assassin like accuracy. And that’s with an extremely sore shoulder in his throwing arm.

No idea on the night game??

I wouldn’t judge too much about this game no matter what happens but I also wouldn’t pass To early judgment on their defense as a whole.
The corners are looking Really good and they are showing some new schemes as well as disguising some of their schemes, and shutting down the run.  They are young players are getting better by the week. I think will see more and I think they will be better.

Normally wouldn't be much to see here, but as you can see the thread was created because of a new starting QB.  I think this will definitely give the team a shot in the arm, and actually think they'll play much better than they would have with an injured Stroud.  Hopefully he can heal up in time for Rutgers, but if not let's see what we have w/ these 2 backups and who might be able to start that one.  I haven't seen the starter officially named yet, but I assume McCord will start with Miller backing him up.  Day has already said Ewers is not ready to play yet.

Ewers should be in high school finishing up his senior season. Don't like when kids reclassify in basketball. Especially don't like it when they do that in football. Football players need time to develop. And they only do that by playing more football.

Seems like the Buckeyes should find a way to get Ewers on the field this year.   After all he sacrificed his senior year in high school for them.  And you wouldn't want him to end up being LSU's next Heisman.

He sacrificed it for the NIL money.  Texas wouldn't let him collect while in HS there.  He showed up like a week or two before the first game.  I really doubt he'll get any PT this year.

He might get a few snaps, no?  How many backups do they have available now?
