LINCOLN -- Former Husker wrestler Jordan Burroughs announced on Thursday that he will be leaving the Nebraska Wrestling Training Center (NWTC) following the 2021 Tokyo Olympics to join the Pennsylvania Regional Training Center (PRTC), located just 23 miles from his hometown of Sickerville, N.J. "I'm a true believer that the greatest work I will ever do will not be on the wrestling mat," the two-time NCAA Champion, four-time World Champion and 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist wrote in a blog post on his website. "An athlete's legacy extends far beyond what they're able to accomplish on the field of play. I have the ability and the voice to empower and lead the young men and women of the next generation, and I want to do that in the same place that I began."

Burroughs will continue to train under the direction of Nebraska Head Coach Mark Manning and Associate Head Coach Bryan Snyder through the 2021 Summer Olympics, which are slated to take place July 25-August 7, 2021, in Tokyo, Japan. Burroughs noted in his post that, "Anytime you have seen me, you have seen two men -- Mark Manning and Bryan Snyder -- close behind. The lessons that these coaches have taught me go far beyond my performances on the mat. They are not only coaches to me, but truly family. Every single one of my five titles are their titles as well. We've got one more year to add another one, together in Tokyo."

Amid a war and pandemic, Nebraska gave Notre Dame all it could handle in 1918

great read about a great game...............

The Fighting Irish were scheduled to be here on warmer days. Now, first-year coach Knute Rockne, the man who’d revolutionized the game five years prior as a player, stood in the cold and watched his team prepare in the melting snow. Before him were his two multidimensional stars who’d soon enter the football lexicon forever: George Gipp, better known as “The Gipper,” and Curly Lambeau. Yes, that Lambeau.

Across the field on the Husker sideline was William G. Kline, a recent law school graduate and young professor at the University of Nebraska. He’d fallen into a head coaching job of a depleted Husker football team that — all season — lost man after man to the Army. He watched his 20 men, most from the state, most of whom had either served in the war or trained at a base close, prepare for their toughest task of the season.

How this game on Thanksgiving day came to be — how it kicked off just after World War I in the middle of a pandemic — is a small miracle. And the story is worth revisiting now, in this summer of 2020, because though the situation in front of college football appears incongruous and foreign, it’s all actually happened once before.

It’s safe to say coach William G. Kline and athletic director R.D. Scott more than earned their pay in 1918. What follows is a timeline of how the Huskers ultimately managed to play six games under the unprecedented conditions of the time.

This is a great thread on the use of FB's and their productivity in the NFL.  It is one element of UNL's past offense that I miss.  I also think HS RB's in Nebraska made great FB's at the college level.  They were kids who where a step slow at the RB position, but would hit the weight room for a couple years just for the chance to play FB for the team.  This made them weapons in the running game as well.

Also, UNL lost a position you could reserve for walkons (yes.. they did offer scholarships, but most coming out of HS were walkons) and hence, focus scholarships in other key positions on the team.   Basically this meant less DB's or DE's on the roster.   jmo

Nebraska added its final scholarship addition to the class of 2020 on Friday evening when defensive back Nadab Joseph, previously at Independence Community College announced his commitment on social media on Friday evening.

The junior college defender had been a strong player of interest for the Huskers dating back to the 2019 spring, and Nebraska stuck with Joseph's recruitment for more than a year, as the defender told Husker247 earlier this summer that he was continuing to hear from Nebraska.

Joseph was once one of the more sought after prep players in the country, as a former Top247 defensive back in the 2018 class.

After sitting out a year, he enrolled at Independence Community College and played as a freshman. The defender held nine offers per his profile, including Alabama and Georgia, two teams heavily involved in his recruitment prior to his arrival at Independence.

Alabama hosted Joseph for a camp in 2019 and a the event the defender recorded a 4.4 40-yard dash time and registered a near 40-inch vertical.

Joseph, originally out of the Miami area, prompted one of the fiercest SEC recruiting battles during the 2018 cycle, as the defender actually committed to LSU and Alabama before a signing day decision with Georgia.

Since that time Joseph has played some with Independence, with eight tackles across five games, starting in October.

Nebraska had only one spot remaining to fill out the 2020 class. The Huskers signed four defensive backs in the cycle, but Henry Gray elected to enter the transfer portal after spending several months in Lincoln prior to the COVID-19 shutdown. Then earlier in July, Jaiden Francois did the same thing, after enrolling early at Nebraska this past winter.

Man, you can take some of those guys out of Youngstown, but you can't take Youngstown out of them.
I had an Army buddy from Altoona, PA, who went to Youngstown State.  He had one word to say about it.
Mafia.
Well, he had some other words too.  But it always got back to that first word.
