The Nebraska athletic department announced cost-saving measures to help offset the financial impacts of the postponement of the Big Ten fall athletic season as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Among the moves announced by Moos, 51 Nebraska athletic department staff members will be furloughed from Sept. 1 through Dec. 31. All over athletic department staff members will take a 10 percent salary reduction through the end of the 2020 year.

The measures announced Friday are in addition to cost savings announced in June that included a 10 percent reduction in overall expenses for Fiscal Year 2021, no merit increases for staff for FY 21 and the elimination of 17 positions in Athletics.  In total, staffing decisions are expected to result in a savings of approximately $3 million for the Athletic Department.

Moos said previously that Nebraska could be looking at a nearly $100 million shortfall.

In June, Moos announced a number of cost-saving measures, including:

No merit increases for all Department employees in Fiscal Year 2021
No increases in all sports programs budgets for the upcoming year
Sports programs will be encouraged to build a more regional non-conference away schedule, which will limit public exposures and allow for a reduction in travel costs
All administrative units across the Department have been asked to reduce budgets by 10 percent
All staff travel (excluding recruiting) will be greatly restricted over the coming year
A reduction in recurring capital expenditures
Summer programming for student-athletes will be limited in Summer 2021

Do the PTB at Nebraska believe that there will be a B1G spring football season?

Enthusiasm is good.

But is the Jan-Spring season really a thing?  Or just a PR move to delay criticism?

real if they get started in January

not reasonable if they wait a month or two

I'm hoping the SEC and Big 12 do well and the Big starts things up in october or november

Is there any meat to the tidbits about several B1G schools gearing up to play a rump-conference schedule?

My personal opinion is the spring concept is just a promise to reduce the noise.

2001 Nebraska-Oklahoma on BTN now.

The 2000 and 2001 games are two of my favorite games that I had no rooting interest in.  Really first time in my fanhood that rivalry meant something

Here in Sooner Nation, I keep reading speculation and rumors that Nebraska would like to return to the Big 12 (so as to make it the Big 11, perhaps).

Most of those stories seem to trace back to Tom Shatel.

Nebraska made a ton of sense...then Delany got blinded by the bright lights of NYC, added two NE schools, started putting basketball tournaments in DC and NYC.

I don't blame Nebraska.  They joined a midwest conference, which turned their backs on being a midwest conference.  I would be plenty happy stopping at 12, if that much was necessary
