Remember, he was supposed to be HCIW. What’s he been up to the last 5 or so years ?
He was at Georgia in various def coaching assignments since 2021

I see that Passing Game-DC Duane Akina was also fired along with DC Pete Kwiatkowski. 2 defensive coaches. Was Texas' defense really its weak link this year?

NCAA stats for FBS have Texas as #36 in total defense and #73 in total offense.

How did I miss this news?  Texas fired their DC?  I thought their D was pretty solid.

If your offense is that bad, you need an elite defense :57:

Muschamp is great in that role.

Guys, this probably wasn't as one-sided as all that. PK is a unique guy. We've talked about how he was a savant for designing defenses, but couldn't talk to a recruit. There's every reason to believe that the relationship just got stale after awhile, and that neither PK nor Sark was happy with the situation.

The idea of Muschamp is near and dear to Longhorn fans. Pictures of him bleeding from a head wound on the sideline, punching diagram whiteboards in front of players, and of course the yelling "Boom, M'f'er!" after a big hit still play to the fans. In the 2000's, his defensive game got lots of HC offers. Texas kept him around with pay raises and the idea that Brown was planning a graceful retirement. When that retirement was "delayed", he reportedly regretfully moved on.

His record as HC is positive but not overwhelming. Spent the last couple of seasons with UGA as an analyst. Reportedly, he really loves Austin. Good chance he and Sark have complementary energies. I believe he'll have a better eye towards how to defend SEC style offenses (odd how these align more than would be necessary) than PK.

That was gonna be my next question....why did UT and PK part ways?

Not sure this would be enough for me to let him go, but it may be accurate.  I wouldn't go looking to trade him for Muschamp, but I wouldn't mind the move if it was his decision to move on.

It's tough, because PK really elevated the group. He had a statistically rough start because of how far the defense had to go in order to be merely competent when he took over. You can't play tight coverage with sloppy DBs. As much as this infuriates fans to give up easy toss and catches, the alternative is an instant TD when the "tight" DB gets lit up and run by. As a coordinator, he called a good game and usually had the guys in position to win the play. Sometimes your athletes just don't win that particular effort.

That said, in a handwaving way, I'd trade him for Muschamp as a business decision. Bonus points if Muschamp can get Gideon back on staff.
