So, how are we doing?

Since the World Cup is here this time, and it's about to be our 250th bday, I figure I might as well jump on the bandwagon.
Pretty good.  USA advanced from its group as the #1 team, which means it gets a lesser team from another group in its opener in the knock-out stage (elimination round).  "Experts" have the US as a 70% favorite against the opponent,  Bosnia and Herzegovina.  That game is tonight at 7 PM Central in Santa Clara, CA (bay area).

I won't be watching.  Win, lose, OK with me.  I get somewhat "amused" when some favored team loses a game, end of the world fire the coach etc.

Definitely.  But even in previous years, it still gets way more attention within the US than the sport receives during the preceding 46 months...

It's like going 4 years without Christmas stuff/decor/music and then on an otherwise mundane November 1st, you go to a Walmart or a mall and KABLOOEY!  It's all over your face!!!

Annoyed I have to be at work during the England game. But I can rig up Telemundo in my office so we'll see how they call Harry Kane.

if that game is on at my local pub I'll glance a few times while eating wings and slurping Budweiser

hopefully, someone there will forcibly remind me that it's time for the old man to go home at 8pm

Ehhhhh, did you not get the memo?  We totally committed treason 250 years ago....

I was informed that FIFA decides which color jersey is to be worn by each team. Not a choice of the country

I think the winning side didn't commit treason for doing the exact thing the losing side did.

Up 1 at the half. Had a hell of a chance for another one. Plus another called back. Hopefully that doesn't bite us.

Red card was bullshit, hopefully rescinded by FIFA. Still won, and Belgium is full of old men.

Yeah that red card was complete crap.  Really hope to see it rescinded on appeal.

But man what a way to kill off that man-advantage for Bosnia.  That was great.
