So, how are we doing?

Since the World Cup is here this time, and it's about to be our 250th bday, I figure I might as well jump on the bandwagon.

It would have a different outcome.

It is weird that the path for the Group D winner wasn't to play in the July 4 game in Philly

The World Cup is like a cultural hurricane to non-soccer fans.
3.75 years, everything is fine.  No soccer in your life.  It's fringe enough that it's safe to watch ESPN and what-not.
The only place in your life soccer exists is maybe going to a friend's kids' soccer game before brunch.
A big nothing.

And then BAM!!!!  24/7 coverage, everyone talking about it, people watching it no matter where you are.  It's all around you.  Should have boarded up your windows.  Should have loaded up on canned goods and hunkered down.
People who don't even like sports are talking to you about Ecuador's midfielder and shit.  You learn every acquaintance's ancestral homeland.
It's not safe!  But it's inescapable!

Help!

I watch a lot of soccer and enjoy both the professional and international versions of the sport.

But, you're not at all wrong, when it comes to the USA in general.

I guess it's sort of like the Olympics?

It’s on steroids because it’s here.

And it’s great.

Definitely.  But even in previous years, it still gets way more attention within the US than the sport receives during the preceding 46 months...

Without question.  I am a prime example.
